Good to have someone that actually found the cause of the problem, befroe removing the diode, can you check to see if they are shorted out, may be that is why you are reading 50 Ohms at the VCC pin.

Re: Polaroid FLM-3232 Dead 24V Rail

I already removed one bud, but they were giving suspicious readings. I can't remember the reading on the one that was cracked but it was reading the same in both directions and the other remaining one was reading 50 ohm both ways.

I wasn't really sure if those readings were any good in circuit but they seemed suspicious. That's right about the time I saw the other post and then I REALLY looked closely and saw what appeared to be a crack.

Edit: I will be sure to take more readings after replacement, including VCC pin and post results.

I am sure now that the 50 Ohms reading is no longer there, more likey that 18V zener is bad.

Marty, sent you a PM. I have a diode bad in the same area and trying to identify it.

So it wasn't just the cracked diode on yours? I didn't notice the crack at first but started pushing on connections and noticed the backlight came on and cap stopped buzzing when I pushed on the end of the diode in my piC. I then felt the crack in the diode with the probe of my multimeter. I seemed to have been able to bend the solder/connection enough now to put more pressure on it and keep the backlight on for now but I just ordered these diodes as they seem to look identical and be the closest match to the factory.

Just following up on this thread. I just picked up the same model FLM-3232 with same problem...red light goes blue when powered on but no other actions. Did anyone determine the fault? All my diodes seem fine, no cracks, readings ok.
