Iiyama E2407HDS - Monitor going into standby.

First post, so lets hope I'm doing this right.

    Issue
Occasionally when switching the monitor on, the screen would power up, display my desktop and after a few seconds, switch back to standby. On occasion this would happen during usage.

Although this sounds like an occurrence of "2 seconds to black", the power LED goes from blue to orange as it makes the step back to standby, and as far as I can remember (stopped using this monitor), there was no image shown at all.

At first I could power cycle the monitor a few times and it would start working again, but over time, the success rate of this dropped. After that I would usually switch the monitor off for a little while, go do something else, then come back and the monitor would work for a little while.

As this issue was sporadic, I swapped to a spare monitor and put the Iiyama to one side.

    History of the monitor
I picked this monitor up on the members market at OcUK for around £90.
Maybe the reason for sale was due to the occasional slip up that I outlined above.

    Next steps?
Both of the boards use some Hermei capacitors, so I am planning on replacing these to see if it brings the monitor back to a usable state.
Decided on replacing all of them as the forum points them out as a bad manufacturer.

As I've gotten my moneys worth out of the monitor, and currently have a spare, I haven't got much to lose trying to fix this myself, as it was just going to be recycled otherwise. Paying someone else to fix it would probably be more than it's worth, and at least if I try to fix it, I learn in the process.

    Questions
    • Does this sound like an issue linked to bad capacitors?
    • Would it be sensible to also replace the hermei capacitors on the mainboard?
    • Apart from visual checks, are there any ways to test for bad capacitors? (I may be able to get hold of various meters from a friend).

I have attached a few pictures of the power board (hopefully that's the right word) and the main board. If any more or better images are required, just let me know.

    Thanks.

I would power it up, apply a Signal from a PC, and confirm what the present symptoms are.Particularly the operaion of the Power Led,as that can be a big clue as to what to do next. You would then be looking at measuring various voltages to try and identify where the problem could be.The caps used are not the best in the world, but to do some testing on them 'in circuit' requires an ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance) meter if you could borrow one of those it may be very useful.

Thank you for a post that is readable and clear pictures.

Before buying and replacing capacitors, borrow a multimeter if you don't have one.

edit: Rtech has written a response (pretty much what I would have wrote).

If you are new to this forum, we can help a lot more if you please post clear focused pictures (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) of your boards using the manage attachments button so they are hosted here. Information and picture clarity compositions should look like this post.

We respectfully ask that you make some time and effort to read some of the guides available for basic troubleshooting. After you have read through them, then ask clarification questions or report your findings.

        Hi

I know this thread is some two and a half years old but since I cannot yet start a new thread I posting a reply to this thread in the hope of some assistance.

I am currently having problems with an Iiyama E2407HDS that I believe could well be due to faulty capacitors. However, I have no idea how to get into the monitor. Just how do I take the thing apart and what would I need to do so? Obviously a screwdriver but would anything else be required? Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks.

        Tracey

"I believe could well be due to faulty capacitors", If you are not familiar with lcd screens, why not to mention also the symptom? For taking it apart, one monitor is not so different from another so use the search button and the correct keywords to search for guides here..
