I wouldn't say 'evil', but I do see a very good chance that at some time in the future anyone following the link would see 'not found' or 'expired' instead of the picture.

The alternative, of course, would be to upload the pictures here to appropriately labeled threads, one for each model of monitor or TV.

Re: Pictures of failed monitors, TV's

It will be nice if I can upload about 3000 pictures of the failed monitors and TV's here but I do not believe I can do that, I also up load pictures eveytime I work on more units, lots of workS but I figure it will help other people that want to do DIY repair.
I do not understand why in the future there will be 'not found' or 'expire'. I paid for service at Photobucket to allow me to do unlimited upload.

Most image hosting services are pretty lousy, even with premium/paid accounts.
For best results and fastest loading times we suggest uploading them here, because we are on a well-maintained dedicated server with lots of disk space...

Well last week, or the week before either they, or one of their advertisers were serving up popups and malware. That's evil in my book.
They seem to be better this week.

Let me clarify my opinion on this.

You are making a large number of pictures available and directly helping many people here. That is a very good thing, and I can now take a half day away from the forum without feeling guilty. Thank You!!

[QUOTE]I paid for service at Photobucket to allow me to do unlimited upload.[QUOTE]
That is the point I worry about. You are a nice person, an asset to this community, and I hope fun to be around. But circumstances change. Was this a one time payment, or will you have to make continuing payments? If it was a one time payment will Photobucket continue to maintain the same policy - the pictures represent a continuing drain on their resources. If it requires continuing payments, what happens if a payment is skipped, you have health problems, or lose interest?

Uploading even the pictures for a single monitor takes a significant amount of time. I for one do not expect you to do them all at one time, I don't even expect you to do one a day or a week. What I tried to express is a wish - I wish they were all on this site.

On the other hand, they are all well organized already. I wonder if Topcat would be interested in hosting them, and if a simple copy of the entire set of folders and their contents would be possible. THAT is well outside my area of expertise.

And if I haven't made it clear, thank you for providing the pictures, and for the assistance you have given.

I could host them on my webspace as well if you want.
Only problem would be to get them all over here somehow so I can upload them.

Re: Pictures of failed monitors, TV's

The reason I upload the pictures to Photobucket is to help other people that try to DIY repair, Iused to used the no fee photobucket, but I went over the limit, so I just make small yearly payment which to me does not cost me that much.
I upload pictures at least once a week or more depends on how many TV, Monitors, electronics. It only take few minutes to up load 20 pictures, so uploading is not the problems. I do them all the time, about 50~100 pictures a week.
I also have all my pictures back up on three hard drive, the one on Photobucket is for helping out people and I do not to up load a bunch every trime some asks to see the pictures, I just give them the link.
Same proble will happen if BADCAPS.NET goes away whci I hope not. I stop providing answer to FIXYA since they have changed the format so I am here more now.
By the way, I do not repair TV and Monitors for living, I have full time engineering job.
Every Saturday in the last 15 years, I do the volunteer works for www.crc.org that is where most of these pictures come from. One day a week is not too bad and it helps stopping stuff going to landfill. It also good to get ideas on what not to design into the products Iam working on, get too see all kind of brands and how so many companies do short cut design so it will only last long enough before warranty runs out, sad!
I also get free lunch, so it is not too bad. got to go, have many computers, TV, monitors to work on, I am at the CRC right now.

                              Photobucket is not very reliable.

Here in Romania for example, the videos don't load or some images don't show up when browsing galleries. It's also relatively slow.

I found Flickr to be more reliable, I could even say it may be worth the 25$ a year.

But nowadays, you can actually very little for a shared hosting account, set up with a few clicks in the control panel an image gallery script and upload your pictures there and be in complete control of your works.

For example, the first shared hosting company I've picked based on a lot of positive reviews was icdsoft.com - for 10$ a month, they give you 50 GB of disk space and 500 GB of bandwidth a month, which is more than enough to host tons of pictures.
It's more expensive than Flickr, but you have complete control over everything you publish. And if you ever can't afford to pay for it, you can simply copy all the contents back to your computer very easily, not saving one picture at a time or through whatever complicated system they may have.

You could have fooled me. I found your photos way back in 2010 when I first started down this path and they helped solidify a lot of concepts.

I am still learning everyday from every one here, there is no stop learning in electronics.
Glad to be here since most people will post the feedback so you know if your solution is correct or not or if more research is needed. It is difficult some time to troubleshoot from long distant. Some time it is easier to do some reverse engineering when you have the board in front of you.

                                    Hello from France,
mon2 kindly advised me to post a thread to ask the question(s) I'm concerned about. I'm new to the forum and I'm looking for practical courses for troubleshooting pc motherboards especially laptops in Europe, if possible in France. I have been a computer network system administrator and a corrector of administration modules for automated programs under Unix. But I really miss the practical "ops" side of troubleshooting. So I would like to start from the beginning: 1.8V, 3.3V, 5V and 19V tests for example, etc...
Do you think this is feasible for me? I...

                                    good morning all,

i purchased a used dell e6540 laptop used 10 months ago from a vendor on ebay. intel i-7 processor, 16 gb ddr3 memory, 256 gb ssd., mobo la-9413p (rev 1.0 dated 2014-08-04). i've inflicted no damage on it since purchase but its past is unknown. starting 2 weeks ago it began to fail to boot (initially 9 of 10 boot attempts failed, now 10 of 10 fail). there was no new hardware or software added (i was using as a kodi video server). the post process doesn't complete and booting no longer displays the dell logo screen - screen remains black with no backlight. some other...
