Reassembly problem with Gateway 2485w monitor, please help.

I am trying to get the ribbon cable reattached to the menu control board.

I dont know if it came off properly, or how to get it reattached. Ive never seen this type of connection, either.

    Any help appreciated...

First hint - don't post in-line pics. It slows down EVERYONE looking at the thread. Use the manage attachments button.

Second - apart from the "bent" conductor showing in the pic - these are *usually* a clamped arrangement. You need to first work out how the clamping part of the board connector works, then place the (repaired) flexicircuit into the connector body and close the clamp. If you have broken the clamp then all bets are off.

      Hey thanks.

So it lifts up on a hinge, you slide the ribbon cable in and then clamp it down, into locked position?

      Let me check it out.

That's the way it looks! Just make sure you have the ribbon facing the appropriate direction. You probably pulled it out, hence why one of the 'leads' is bend. Don't worry, everyone does that once in awhile.

          Ive destroyed the connection.

Any place to pick up another one of those boards?

If I recall correctly, if you have enough 'slack' in that cable, you can cut it back and expose a better section of 'leads', but it's a matter if it will reach or not.

No, Ive destroyed the connection on the board, not the ribbon cable. None of the white plastic is attached to the board anymore.

Hot Glue. I've used it before to hold the cable in place. The ones people usually mess up are the ZIF (zero Insertion Force) cables. They pull them out instead of releasing the locks and ruin the cable. When Installing, make sure the lock is open, slide cable in, push lock down. Forget the hot glue. I just re-read that and see that all of the white plastic is broken off.

if you're good enough with soldering, you can try to solder wires to the testpoints next to the connector, and connect them up on the other end (of which there's no pic unfortunately)

Are you very handy with a soldering iron? If so, you could cut a strip of IDE cable from an old PC and solder that to both ends very carefully. I think that's what I'd do in this situation.

I wouldnt call myself a soldering iron maestro, but I would be willing to give this a shot.

                        by Askic
                        Hello to all,

I have a problem with monitor that is delivered together with CCTV system.
The monitor appears to be completely dead, there is no LED power diode and it doesn't react to pressed power button.

I have disconnect display and check many components on the power supply part of the board. There is no anything obvious and monitor is about 3 years old. There are no bulged caps. When measuring voltages on the output connector to VGA board I can measure stable 14.5 V on 12V pins and stable 5.07V on 5V pins. So I assumed that this part of the board is OK....

                        by CptChronic
I have an intermittent display problem with my monitor, when I plug in the HDMI cable to my (or any) laptop, you see the connection screen shrink on the laptop as it usually would before displaying on the monitor but 95% of the time the monitor display stays black.

Before it cut out all together, tapping the monitor control button a fair few times would make the screen display, and everything work fine.

But now it never does it. Not sure what's going on, hoping someone can help. I'm capable of stripping the thing down and soldering in new parts if needed, or programming...

                        by tmhobadcap
I have a few successful experience in fixing tv backlight problem. But for monitor, I have no experience. However, I think they are more or less the same. Am I correct?

Recently, I got the captioned monitor and the owner said it could not be turned on. I open it up and found that one of the SMT capacitors seemed to be bad. I replaced it as well as the other one. The monitor still could not be turned on.

I found the power indicator is on. When I shine a flashlight on the screen, I can see the image. Therefore, I think it is with backlight problem. I took out the led strip....

Pioneer Pro-FHD1 Elite. Failure to power on.

I'm new to this awesome forum, and have been reading like mad, but have not seen the answer to my challenge.

We bought this Panasonic plasma monitor 16 years ago and it has never been serviced, so all parts are original, and the unit has never malfunctioned -- until about a month ago. The system fails to power on. At first (a month ago) this happened rarely. We learned to unplug for a few minutes to drain the caps, then re-plug, and the monitor would start normally. Now, we plug-in, turn on the main power switch, and the...
