    SOYO MT-NI-DYLM1986 screen flickering

I have a 19" Soyo model MT-NI-DYLM1986 and it will work perfectly for 20 or 30 minutes and suddenly the screen will start to flicker and it may stop doing it or it may keep flickering.

Well I may have just solved my own issue. LOL, it started to flicker as I was typing this and I wiggled the power cord where it plugs into the monitor and it immediately stopped flickering. I waited a few seconds and it started to flicker again so I touched the power cord and it stopped immediately. Now its not flickering at all, even if I touch the power cord. Cold Solder Joint maybe in the power cords connections inside the monitor? Ive tried a different power plug just to make sure so I know its not the cord. Also I am making sure the power cord is pushed all the way into the socket. Any ideas anyone? So far its continuing to work perfectly.

Possibly. I fixed a dead (no power) monitor by resoldering the AC input solder joints which obviously had ring cracks once I inspected it.

What I have discovered is when it starts flickering I can grab the monitor and gently twist it like an ice cube tray and it will stop flickering immediately. If I let go, it starts flickering, but as soon as I twist it a little bit it stops flickering and looks beautiful. With the monitor facing me, I grab the top left corner with my left hand and the bottom right corner with my right hand and apply a gentle pressure as if I was trying to crack it like and ice cube tray and the flickering stops immediately. I have to grab it in these spots because if I swap to bottom left and top right I cannot get it to stop flickering. I have checked the internal monitor cable that plugs into the back of the actual screen itself and I even tapped it down. It still flickers. Ive checked the cables for the CCFL's that plug into the power supply and they are also plugged in good. It almost seems as if its inside the actual screen itself. Maybe loose or partially broken wire to the end of the CCFL's? Any guesses?

Sounds almost like a bad solder joint. Try pushing down on various parts of the circuit board and cables with an insulated tool, like the end of a wooden spoon or plastic spatula. Also, try pushing on various parts of the LCD control board. This is the board that spans the width of the LCD panel and connects to your logic board.

Tried pushing down on power supply and logic board all over them and it will not flicker at all. If I move the LCD Screen itself around it will flicker. It seems like a short in the CCFL's themselves, but let me ask you this. If there was a short in the CFFLS, wouldn't only half the screen flicker because there are 2 sets of bulbs. One set in the top and one set in the bottom. Ive wiggle the wires that hook the bulbs to the board and it doesn't flicker. If I apply pressure to the corner of the lcd itself (the metal framing of the actual lcd) it flickers. Seems to me to be a possible short in the bulbs wiring or the thin circuit board that is attached to the lcd. Ive put pressure on that slim board and it doesnt flicker. Only if I tork the actual lcd frame itself. Right now its running perfectly for about 20 minutes. Very frustrating to diagnose. lol

I had the same fault on anothe one, and the metal framing was actually warped, due to overheating no doubt, and the same sort of flexing, caused the flicker to come and go.

I have noticed one bulb flickering can affect the entire screen. Do you have any ccfls you can substitute ?
              Al.
Whatever I do, I consider it a success, if in the end I am breathing, seeing, feeling and hearing!

                Re: SOYO MT-NI-DYLM1986 screen flickering

If all CCFL tubes are flickering, then it sounds like the CCFL controller chip is sensing some type of excessive current draw, but intermitent enough as not to completely shutdown the CCFL tubes. This can caused by one tube as alexanna suggested. And like he suggested, try substituting a known good tube one at a time. Have you done the obvious like reseating the CCFL connectors? Or, like you're thinking, there's a possible short to the LCD frame. You may have to take the tubes out to examine the wiring and solder connections. Also, be careful to do all this while the power is off as there's something like 700-900VAC feeding those tubes.

I do not have any tubes to replace the current tubes and yes I have reset the CCFL connectors. It has been running for several hours now with no flickering at all. I removed the LCD Controller Board and then put it back on just to do it. No flickering since then. Ill post back if it starts to flicker again. Thank you all for replies. This forum rocks!
