Dell E172FPt repair. White lines on screen.

    Hi,

I am enclosing a picture of what the problem is......i dont think i can describe it in words adequately. Basically, when i power up the monitor.....the LED comes on and "white" lines show up on the screen.

I did measure the voltages at the connector with the LED on and off.

Power to monitor and LED off: Gnd lead set to "neg" of big 100uF cap.
    Black: 81.1V
    Brown: 81.1V
    Red: 0.03V
    Orange: 0.03V
    Yellow: 81.1V
    Green: 81.1V
    Blue: 86.1V
    Purple: 86.1V
    Grey: 81.1V
    White: 81.1V

Power to monitor and LED ON: Gnd lead set to "neg" of big 100uF cap.
    Black: 80V
    Brown: 82.6V
    Red: 0.004V
    Orange: 0.004V
    Yellow: 79.4V
    Green: 79.4V
    Blue: 84.4V
    Purple: 84.4V
    Grey: 79.6V
    White: 79.6V

Any ideas on if this is fixable or not? If so what to try to identify the problem.

I'd say a bad panel board.

when you say panel board ......... do you mean the "logic" board....ie...not the power supply or the inverter board.

Try cleaning/Reseating the ribbon cable from the Logic board to the LCD panel,Both ends.

This won't help with your panel problem, but when measuring the connector, like above, I usually use a ground screw closest to the connector. This gives me more "normal" readings like 5V DC, etc versus 86.1V.

On most connectors, you will see them labeled 5V, GND, BL/ON, etc. I can't tell your board due to the angle though.

No, the board under the metal cover at the top of the panel. A cable runs from the logic board to the panel board.

Thanks all for the suggestions / info.

I took a look at the "panel" and i could not see anything "obvious" so i am including a few pics of it. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Get a pencil with a rubber top and run the pencil along each tab and see if you can find a tab at fault
