This "free from a friend who was going to recycle it" SONY BRAVIA XBR-55A8H arrived with the bottom center RED LED repeating a four flash pattern. It was treated with kid gloves and was reported to have "just gone dead" and the OLED panel has no dents in the metal frame or cracks.
Thread https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?p=1091829 helped in proceeding as follows:
1) Unplugged, then plugged set in while holding the remote VOL- and Power to factory reset.
2) Waited 30 seconds, then pressed remote Power button and "Select language" setup menu in "1 Initial display after remote VOL- + Power reset.jpg"
3) 15 seconds later white lines appeared as seen in "2 15 sec after initial display.jpg"
4) At 18 seconds the display changed to "3 18 sec after reset - just before BL_ERR shutdown.jpg". A moment later the relay clicked, screen went blank and Red LED resumed the flour flash sequence.
5) Pulled back cover and repeated 1) - 4) several times while taking voltage measurements at Power Supply PCB:
STBY3.3V = 3.6
REG12V = 12.8
TCON12V = 12.8
EVDD = 22.2
BL_ERR = 0V until 4) when white lines appear then, it rises to 3.4V as relay clicks.
- None of the voltages change when white lines appear or just before shutdown!
- Fuses on TCON are OK and voltages measured at TCON are the same as PS voltages above.
6) Powered TCON alone per Diah's Post #4 in https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?p=1091829 and after 15 seconds saw the same white lines as in "2 15 sec after initial display.jpg"
7) De-Oxit'ed & reseated all pinned / ribbon connections then repeated 1) - 6) = no change. Unplugging Wi-Fi module = no change.
Feeling pretty sure the Power Supply and Controller PCBs are OK...
Looking for opinions from the group on whether the OLED panel is toast before ordering a used TCON from shopjimmy!
