but it looks like a replacement will cost around $20 USD. To me, it wouldn't be worth $20.
I don't know what the costs are in your country is, but sometimes (not very often) I see ads for used 19 inch LCD monitors for $20 CDN.
It looks like you recapped the board too with United Chemicon.--- begin sig file ---

Re: Dell 1707fpt's transformer smells badly
Does it get hotter than the other?
Could it be bad CCFL tube(s)?
Have you tried switching tube connections from one side to the other?

Re: Dell 1707fpt's transformer smells badly
update #2
I took a connector from another board, not the exact same size so i bend the legs a little. After soldering it without any problem i turn on the monitor, the burned chemical odor was gone, but i still smell the chemical odor. I opened the monitor again and measured most of the surrounded components of that female connector:
c108 - 692 ohm
c109 - 429 ohm
c143 - no reading
R111 - 249 ohm (SMD resitor marked as 4320)
R112 - 994 ohm (1001)
R115 - 3.62k ohm (1598)
R120 - 12.96k ohm (1302)
all diodes read 616-622
I think may be the ceramic cap is bad (N27 3KV SEC), interesting that i notice a glowing cable in the back of the monitor.Comment

update #3
So i turned on the monitor without the backcover, and definitely the ccfl's cable attached to the bad connector was glowing purple blue, i tried connect to another side and still glowing, i guess the problem it's a leaking ccfl tube, am i right? Should i change the ceramic cap too?
P.S: the monitor doesn't have any brightness or display problem, completely functional, except for the smell.Comment

Re: Dell 1707fpt's transformer smells badly
I opened the LCD panel and effectively a lamp was broken, put a pair of 1703fps ccfl's tubes (upper ones) which are very similar in size, trying to put to the panel all together took me an hourunfortunately i f' up the the lcd screen while assambling (pressure marks)
at least it works but with faulty display.
Thanks to everyone who tried to help.Comment

Could you take a photo of the pressure marks? I would be interested to know what they look like for future reference."Tantalum for the brave, Solid Aluminium for the wise, Wet Electrolytic for the adventurous"

by BowlineMy question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?
Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?
My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.

this is my first post, so if I make mistakes please do not hesitate to point them out, thank you in advance.
I got a Dell Latitude 5420 (Service Tag: 7RFM6D3, Motherboard: GDF40 LA-491P Rev.: 2.0 (A01)) which does not start and I want to repair it. These are the symptoms:
If the laptop is only connected to the AC adapter (battery removed):
When I press the power button, the keyboard backlight and the display backlight are turning on. Caps key light is lightning, but key does not respond to pressing it.

by diamonI have a Dell Latitude 5530 with a damaged RJ45 network connector. See the attached pictures.
Have already searched on Farnell / Aliexpress / Ebay and had contact with several suppliers on Aliexpress and Ebay, but they cannot deliver this connector.
Is there someone inside the EU, who has these connector(s) or perhaps defective motherboard(s) for these laptop models I have mentioned in the topic title.

by lalle-Hello!
I have a problem with a Dell G5 SE 5505 laptop that I hope someone can give me a few pointers on.
[OK, it's not really a laptop, I'm running the motherboard on my desktop with only cooling, RAM and an M2 drive attached.]
I had some performance issues, so I decided to update my BIOS from 1.7.0 to the latest version, 1.20.0.
The computer restarted and the update dit not want to continue without a battery connected, even though I used dell's method of bypassing this requirement.
I tried updating to a custom BIOS from Reddit user Satori_Nori https://www... -
by federalhouseHi everyone,
I'm in need of assistance with a Dell Precision 5820 Tower. The BIOS is locked with "Dell Security Manager," preventing access to the HDD-1 hard drive.
**Background:**
I recently purchased this Dell Precision 5820 Tower from a recycler who salvages equipment from abandoned office spaces. The computer was left behind by its previous owner and was password locked. Given that it can run Windows 11, I saw this as an opportunity to upgrade my setup.
