    Korg Vocal Sample

Hello guys! I got a Korg Vocal Sampel here that doesn't get powered on.
I use it with six 1.5V Batteries (as stated on the back of the case).
Pressing the power button does absolutely nothing.

Visually I can not see anything wrong with the PCB.
The two soldering points where the PCB gets its power get 9.75V.
The power button seems to work, since on continuity mode it beeps when I press it.

I found out that the circled resistor (1M?) has 9V on the one side, and after the resistor there is no volage. No matter if I press the button or not.

Could this be the reason the thing is not powering up?

    Picture here: https://imgur.com/a/FZTSx1i

EDIT: It seems to be a fuse and not a resistor. There is a writing beside it saying FU1. The SMD as a M on it

    good,
check the resistance between each end of the fuse and ground - lets see if there is a short-circuit responsible for blowing the fuse.

      Re: Korg Vocal Smample

Hi stj, thanks for your reply.
The upper pin where the 9.75 V are on, has no resistance to ground. After the fuse (lower pin on the picture) has 200 Ohms. (Settings on my DMM are Ohms 2k and display showing 0.222)

      EDIT:

I searched for the datasheet of the voltage regulator on the picture. It is a TPS6211. Pinout of the chip: https://imgur.com/a/JiCuc1a

the pins 1 and 2 (VIN) are shorted to ground. Both pins go to a common smd capacitor. I guess the chip is dead?

maybe, but smd ceramic caps are a common problem - i would remove the cap first and see if the short goes away.

How can I find out the values of these caps? If they happen to be dead, I need to find a replacement.

You are right. Could you assist me on finding the right ones?

This is the example from the datasheet. I see three caps in proximity of the chip. On the datasheet example are not that many.

According to the application circuit, the Vin (Pin 1, 2) filter cap are 10uF 25V and 1 uf in parallel, then also check to see if pin 8 (VNA) is also connected to pin 1 and 2.
You also need to check the resistance between SW pin and VIN pin, SW pin and PGND PIN.
BTW, what is the resistance reading between VIN pin and GND?
It is also best for us for you to use attachment function for the pictures instead of using off site for the pictures.

                  Hello budm!
Pin 8 is connected to Pin 2, and Pin 1 (PGND).

                  VIN - SW : 3.3 Ohm
                  VIN-PGND : 3.3 Ohm

                  VIN - GND : 0.1 Ohm

VIN - SW : 3.3 Ohm : This look bad, this measurement is to check the High side MOSFET of the SMPS IC

                    VIN-PGND : 3.3 Ohm: I expect this to be 0.1 Ohms also.

                    VIN - GND : 0.1 Ohm
How about SW - PGND, SW - GND? This is for testing the Low side MOSFET of the SMPS IC.
BTW, If you look at the internal diagram of the SMPS IC you will then understand why i ask you to check the internal MOSFET's of the IC.

                      SW - PGND: 2.4 Ohm
                      SW - GND: 2.4 Ohm

Is it because if it is shorted than basically VIN is shorted to GND? I am a beginner with ICs

                          Hello guys

Taking a look at some KNX domotic modules that were toasted due to some kind of electrical failure, I found out 2 weird looking resistors.

Seem to me like some kind of fuse resistor?
After diggin a bit seems like a fuse wirewound resistor wafer or whatever that is

They are very toasted but I think the 5 band colours are RED GOLD BLACK ORANGE ORANGE or the opposite, not sure which is the first band.
The red band is larger than the 4 others, but I dont have much experience with these components.

                          Also one of the orange...

Hello, I disassembled this dead camera, and found this WTF… Two fuses soldered one above the other !
I was pretty sure nobody touched it before, but that can't be from factory. There is flux, and capacitor is probably missing.
                          The other weird thing : the fuses are « G » fuse : (0.75A – 8V), seems very low. The original fuse should be « O » : (32V 2,5A).
There is « O » mark beside. All fuses have the same mark letter on main board. So, I can deduce it's a « O » fuse.
And this correspond to the issus I saw : when I plug the battery, I measure the voltage dropping...

Can a resistor lose resistance after hot air?
                          by MidnightRoller
I am curious if a 0402 resistor could go from 43 ohm to 0. In electronics class and my experience a resistor can degrade and gain resistance all the way up to not being able to conduct at all. I have never heard of a resistor decreasing in resistance and becoming 0 ohm or a dead short… that's not the direction they fail… or so I thought.

I was attempting to remove a wson8 chip on an iMac motherboard and it required a lot of heat, on one side of the chip were 3 0402 resistors that were very close. I popped the chip out unintentionally out of the tweezers and sent those resistors...

BN44-00517C dead - blown cap, resistor and fuse
                          by bobby4star
                          Hi All,
I have a UE32ES6540 which is dead, customer reported a pop and a puff of smoke. PSU is BN44-00517C and has blown 221k 1KV cap, next to this a blown resistor RM811. Board mains fuse is blown.
Has anyone seen this problem and will changing the cap, resistor and fuse likely fix it? One more ask, can anyone give me a 2nd opinion of this resistor rating of RM811? I think it's 0.24 Ohms but would like a 2nd opinion! See attached pic.

                          Thanks!
                          Bob...

I have purchased an 100-240v AC/5v 2a DC adaptor from aliexpress, and a month ago It smelled burning when I plugin it powerstrip.
Since then, This AC/DC adaptor have been out of order.
But A few days ago,I replace 0.5 watt resistor with 1 watt resistor(1ohm) in this adapter.
After replacing resistor,It succeed to recharge all of android phone. And When I measure voltage on the two pins of USB port,It shows 5.5v
Is it okay to replace 1/2 watt resistor with 1 watt resistor in AC/DC adapter?
And Is there any possibility that it will suddenly explode as well as to be out...
