System dead - ATP3 - Altec Lansing Computer Speak System with subwoofer

    Model: ATP3

Issue: The system doesn't respond. As in ... totally dead.

The sound of the system was great for my use, so I'll try to fix it.

There's no visual indication of problems on the components. No smells or sound either.

I've measured the transformer and apparently there's a broken primary coil in the transformer. ( Resistance above 1990 khms. )

    Do you agree, it's broken?
How do I go about buying a new one?

I'm sorry for not getting the photo link in the first post. Don't know what happened.

    The sticker label says:

    TEN PAO Model no.:TG51219F0
    Input: AC 230V/50Hz
    Output: AC 12.5V/2.5A

So I guess I'll be getting one of those.

some said that if you need to change, consider a good toroidal transformer as a replacement.

and i think there is multiple voltage on the transformer iirc

The purpose of this post is to test if either I'm a fool for forgetting the image or there's something wrong with my image link...

Edit: ok, that didn't work, so my links are broken.. trying again.
          That's better.

Make sure you check the amp and power supply diodes for shorts. Those transformers typically have thermal fuses for UL (or equivalent NRTL in your country) listing.

Don't put a transformer in there w/o a thermal fuse unless you really know what you're doing! The amp PCB may or may not have fuses, need pix to determine this.

Another thing that commonly opens thermal fuses in those transformers is overvoltage on the AC line, such as when the local 416Y/240V network looses the neutral somewhere before the transformer, putting more than the nominal 240V into your service. Light bulbs get really bright.

Help with replacing Capacitors on Altec Lansing ATP 3
                  by yuzupatogik
                  Hello,
I have this old (2004?) Altec Lansing ATP3 and i would like to replace the capacitors. I have identified 34 out of the 36 of them as Samxon GR of various capacities and voltages.

I can't find datasheets for the Samxon in any of the following variants:

10000uF 25 v - this one i really want to replace because i suspect it is what causes a dull hum regardless of the volume knob position or if the source is plugged in. I am eyeballing the Rubycon 25PK10000MEFCGC18X35.5 for this purpose. So if i pay a 10x the price part for shipping i might as well go ahead and...

I've got a subwoofer that I've had for nearly 20 years, it did come with a basic remote which I've lost. It's a generic make of subwoofer, I can't see a brand sticker on it. It comes with 2 speakers.

Question recently I've connected it up to my tv which has greatly improved the sound on my tv, however I'd like to be able to mute the subwoofer when ads come on or just mute it when the phone rings etc. I tried using a cheap all in one tv remote on the subwoofer and the volume button would only work to increase volume but not turn it down or mute it

                  Is there a way of...

How can I be sure that my EC chip is dead?
                  by double_DD
                  Hi all,

As the title suggests, how can I be sure that my EC chip is really dead?

I've recently gotten into this hobby of laptop repairs, and have successfully brought back to life a couple with some easy fixes, mostly shorted caps.

Now I'm working on HP Probook 455 G8, that had some "devil" run around on 3V line, burning a bunch of stuff. Luckily I have a dead 455G7 (for spare parts) so I managed to fix it (swapped burned parts) to a point that it will charge (both on barrel jack and usb-c), but it doesn't want to turn on. There is a 3V3 on a keyboard...

                  by LEECH666
                  Good day ladies and gentleman!

I am currently trying to repair a Grundig Vision 9 37 9880 T USB LCD TV for a friend that has a weird audio problem. Basically everything works fine except for the heavily distorted sound when the Subwoofer module is connected and there is a buzzing sound coming from the PSU PCB.

This seems to be a rather rare TV so there is not much prior on topic help to be found however a service manual is available at the usual sources (Electro Tanya i.e.).

I think the PSU buzzing comes from one of the coils near the bridge rectifier but...
