    Hooking up surround for 1970's stereo

    A former co-worker/friend just moved and part of that was this big 70's kenwood stereo system with big speakers. I'm still not 100% sure it will continue working because its been in a cooled environment, it's has not been plugged in in 15 years.

    I get the premise, preamp as the hub which connects with just two rca cables to the main amp but there is also a surround amp with two smaller speakers. I've seen preamps with dual stereo outputs, this one only has one.

    Also is this 'control' thing that takes stereo cable that seems to connect up all the devices (Turntable, Tuner, Tape).

    It will be hooked up at the new house with JUST the preamp and amp hooked to the TV (having to use a toslink coax to rca adapter)

    how can I hook the surround stereo up? There is no second output from the preamp (though i've seen models online that do)

      If you care about music, you need two separate systems. Surround sound processors are not made for critical listening of music. I've had several different processors from several different companies and won't listen to music on any of them. I still use my system from 1976, The surround sound is not much better than listening to music on an AM radio.

              connect the tv out to the ss-78, line in, connect pre out to the preamp, preamp to main amp. ss-78 has its own speaker outputs, I'm sure there are otherways to do this

                  I mis-read the post
                  are you trying to hook up the Kenwood 70's preamp/amp AND a seperate surround stereo to the tv?

                      well the surround in this case would be expanded stereo. (unless I got a toslink to rca surround converter and just hooked the back speakers to the surround)

                      well the surround is its own amp to the back speakers, so I would think, the pre to the amp and surround amp (other kenwood preamps have two stereo outputs [4 connectors] for outputs to both) but this only has one

                      the surround I would imagine would have to be hooked to the preamp somehow

                          Hello,

                          I know some might say... just buy another one. Sell it as parts..!

                          So had this AMP for quite some time. Recently I saw light smoke coming out of the AMP. Had my fire extinguisher close by. Just kidding. Turned immediately all devices off from mains.
                          Let things cool a bit, and opened up the amp device. I clearly saw on the main board which hosts the 5X amp (5.1), 3 10 ohms 1W resistors had their leads looking black, while the rest of the remaining 2 x 10 ohms were brownish as being installed from factory.

                          Spent some time downloading the Service...

                          More Lo-Fi speakers and another DIY surround repair. The patient this time: a pair of Philips F9217L-50R speakers from a budget Philips rack/component system from the '80's. The system belongs to my brother in-law… or actually his parents. However, they didn't want it when they moved houses and he liked it anyways, so he ended up keeping it. It's a pretty cool-looking vintage system with a wood/veneer cabinet and shelves for records and cassettes. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to take a picture of it or get the model #'s (but maybe next time I visit, if anyone is curious?)

                          I bought a Cheap HIFI to use as my PC output and speakers and forgot to check if it had an input. It doesn't.

                          Is there any way to add a stereo input. I have a bunch of Phono sockets I am not using.
                          Where in the circuit is the best place to solder the 3 stereo input wires?

                          HH Scott Model A510 Stereo Integrated Amplifier/ Graphic EQ - Blowing fuses in the LEFT speaker channel only. Any Help???

                          So like the title says, I have an old Stereo Receiver/Amplifier that I picked up from the goodwill, it's a HH Scott Model A510. When I first got it home it had zero output. Opened it up, notice the fuses are missing. Pop in 2 new fuses (AGC4A 250V) and try again, within 5 seconds the L channel fuse POP! I don't see any visible indications of damage or arc burns on the PCB, no popped resistors or diodes, no burnt traces or blown out caps. So I decide to just try another new fuse, POP. Swapped around my R and L speaker wires, and checked the integrity of all wires and connections. Everything looks...
