I'm assuming I have to strip it down transformer has to come out heatsink all that since its all screwed to the bottom. Then it has to be built on a bench with no chassis to test. It's the only way I don't see any other way.

Good clear pictures of the bottom of the chassis?
Pictures of the top view of the internal of the unit?
You may have to do that since there is no PCB layout to see if the signal path can be probed from the top side of the board.
It is not going to be easy, but that is how you learn to figure out the way to test the circuit.
I paid my due spent hours, days, months on some complicate stuff before so for me to transfer you the 40 years of knowledge to the beginner just from the pictures and typing without the unit in front of me is almost impossible.
When you spend lots of times on your own and finally figure it out how to solve the problems at hand on your own, you will remember that for the rest of your life.
You can some time spends hours just to figure out how the signal gets from point A to point B from 50 pages for the schematic, and then have to find where the parts are at on the actual board.
So if you think you will be spending a couple hours figure this thing out, you can forget that.
And when you get to the test [ont you still need to learn how to use the mACV meter as the tool to test the audio signal since you do not have the scope or the Audio tracer.

Even though I got to the ic I don't feel like going any further with this project because I agree it's not for a beginner. I repair TV's all the time, but not at board level unless it's capacitors and did one ic once with a heat gun and a flux pen. TVs are a little different in my opinion because you have your common faults you usually know what it could be because of understanding what each board does and how it works etc. I guess I was kinda hoping this was like a common fault kinda like the notorious HDMI board issues that plague these. But this issue could be a combination of things lots of components could of killed each other etc

But I do appreciate and thank you for spending your time with me and I appreciate sharing your knowledge. What I'm going to do with it is take the HDMI board out because it works good. Replace the caps on it for prevention of issues and heatsink the DSP then take my bosses unit and just install it for him for free since he has an Integra with the same HDMI board that's faulty and the rest of the unit I'll throw away.

Re: Onkyo HT-R690 AV Receiver Front Right Channel Not Working

Well, the service manual show you the signal paths and the the actual diagram of what is section is and how audio form the input gets to the output.
the bottom line is to understand the basic and how each component works, for example, transistor can be used as amplifier or as a switch, you have to be able to read the schematic to understand how the parts is being used. Once you have good base of understanding then it does not matter if you work on the amplifiers or the TV. You can fix TV power supply because you can see the bulging on the top of the caps but do you really understand each function of each section of the power supply to figure out why it is not working if you are not seeing any caps with bulging tops, that is the real troubleshooting. Replacing caps with bulging tops are easy, it is not easy when there is no clue.
What do you do if some one gives you the TV power supply board to fix that does not work and no sign of caps with bulging tops?

I get the service manual if it's not silk screen on the board but lots of times it is and I probe the voltages on the cables to find out what's missing because sometimes it could be the main board that's at fault and doesn't trigger the PS to come on

This problem could be as simple as a bad connection at a connector.

It could be yes, but in this case I'm sure it's not since before I got deep into it I used the eraser on the side of a pencil to flex, move hit and prod at all the components while playing music and nothing changed. I also flexed all cables while playing music and nothing. Also hit the relays etc no change.

I would check to see if the Muting Transistor is being turned on when it should not be or it has leakage resistance between E and C, see schematic PDF page 10.

It could have been a great lesson to learn on how to troubleshoot the problems.
I agree, but the only issue is I have many many other things and projects to repair so right now i just don't have the time for a project like that. I have roughly 18 TVs to repair at this time and I'm the only one working on them.

For this Dick Smith TV GE6878 (Thompson) I replaced the broken remote with a universal it kinda works though if its more than a few meters away sometimes the buttons register and sometimes they wont so I bought another remote from another brand and it has the same problem, I've had an old TV in the past that the sensor died completely and I replaced it to fix it could this be a similar problem? I tried looking for a service manual, spare parts for a receiver and a parts list but I couldnt find any info. can someone please help me to find the info online for a service manual or where I can buy...

Onkyo TX-SR805 noise in one channel

Surprisingly enough, this receiver doesn't have the DSP chip issue. The HDMI board does not get hot, and sound over HDMI works fine.

Regardless of the input, the right channel has noise that is clearly noticeable even on average volume level. The only cases when there's no noise is when VCR input is selected (some tracks on the board are damaged, maybe that's why), or if HDMI input is selected but nothing plugged into it. In all other cases, even when no input is connected I still have the noise.

There's some logic behind it. As soon as I select an input I get only left...

                                            Hi friends

I have reverse engineered this tester, schematic is attached and is complete except for capacitor values. These testers annoyingly have no model number but they are the ones you find on the first page of just about any website if you type in "18650 4-channel tester". There is also a 2-channel variant and a newer 8-channel variant. They are very cheap (about £15) and can measure voltage, current, internal resistance and capacity. They have a multicolour display for all these statistics. They also have terminal blocks so that if you want to use a breakout board...

JVC TH A35 Home cinema repair, only sub and center channel working
                                            by Deedeelabricolade
So I have this home cinema with only the subwoofer and the central speaker working. The unit boots up with blue light, so no protection mode nor short detected. All fonctions are available (radio, cd, aux etc...).
I have the schematic of it but no idea what to look at and how. Seems that the sub and center speaker are both connected to the same relay but I don't get how the 3 other have failed as they are all powered from the same supply? How can I diagnose it safely?

Onkyo HT-R510 turns on and then immediatly off
                                            by redbaron1007
I picked up an Onkyo HT-R510 that when I plug it in and press the power button will turn on and then a couple of seconds later turn itself off. When it turns on you can hear the relay click and then immediately click again and shut the power to the system off. I spent about 5 hours today trying to troubleshoot it and I did make some progress that may not actually tell me anything. It's still not really working and I'm not quite sure where to go next.

Here's everything I've done so far.

The first thing I did was open it up and check for any burn marks exploded parts...
