Onkyo HT-R690 AV Receiver Front Right Channel Not Working

    Hello,

The front right channel is not working on this one. The receiver does not go into protect mode, it's working fine on all other channels. I checked all the nobel resistors and they checked out ok. The Transistors im assuming are ok or else the unit would go into protect mode. The problem is not the HDMI board as I have put this HDMI board into another unit and all channels worked.

    Any ideas anyone?

    Service manual:

Do you have scope to trace where the signal gets lost? Looking for signal from speaker protection relay back toward the input.

So you have more than one unit that allow you to swap the boards?
You may be able to use in mV AC mode to trace out the audio signal.

Not at this time. I did have one here for repair of a faulty HDMI board which I fixed up and I decided to do that swap to see if this one im asking about had a bad one, but the channel worked find in the other unit. The units were not the exact model numbers, but had similar HDMI boards just one had less HDMI's than the other. The other boards looked different.

Well, you now have the diagram and the AC mV meter, so start tracing out from the output back to the input. Feed audio into Front Left and Front right then use the meter to look at the signal of the working channel and compare it to the non-working channel. It can be a simple as bad connection or bad speaker relay contacts, etc.

Any idea what do I measure? what components? where do I start? I have never done this kind of diagnostic before?

Read the schematic is the start, you need to be able to read the diagram to be able to trace the signal paths on the unit based on the diagram, form output back to input if you know what that means.

I would say for something like this im a beginner. The most I have ever done is replace capacitors at board level. I cant even make sense of the schematic. Maybe I should throw the unit away, I dunno at this point.

If you are going to repair these things you need to be able to read a schematic. Otherwise you will just be guessing. You could fix a problem and later on it could occur again because the cause of the problem was not fixed. Do you have any experience with OHM's Law?

The first place you would begin is on the block diagram on page 4 of manual that Bud M supplied. You will need to know what he ask you from that page. That is tracing from the output to the input. This is kind of like a flow chart.

Unfortunately I don't know Ohms law. Maybe this is way beyond my scope. Would be nice if I could get it going. I will look at the schematic and see if I could make sense of it.

I am sure their on online explanations of OHM's Law. This would be in a beginners course. You could learn this as it would help your understanding what you are doing. Kind of learn as you go. That is if you have a interest in learning this. Otherwise, you should rely on a technician to troubleshoot your equipment as you can get harmed with this stuff if you do not know what your doing. The Block Diagram I referred you to is not a schematic.

Per block diagram, the Headphone jack is BEFORE the Front Left, Front Right speaker relay, so use the Headphone to see if you do get the sound of both channels through the headphone or not.

I repair TV's all the time not knowing ohms law and not knowing schematics. I guess receivers are different.

Ok I had a look and threw headphones same issue I just get the left channel but not the right. I noticed if I crank it to max with the headphones or even a speaker connected I get very faint distorted audio on the right channel. I'll wait to hear back from you guys on the next step.

Anyone have any clues what to check next? I'm guessing it's not relay related since the headphone jack is before the relay and the headphone jack has the issue as well.

For this Dick Smith TV GE6878 (Thompson) I replaced the broken remote with a universal it kinda works though if its more than a few meters away sometimes the buttons register and sometimes they wont so I bought another remote from another brand and it has the same problem, I've had an old TV in the past that the sensor died completely and I replaced it to fix it could this be a similar problem? I tried looking for a service manual, spare parts for a receiver and a parts list but I couldnt find any info. can someone please help me to find the info online for a service manual or where I can buy...

Onkyo TX-SR805 noise in one channel
                                          by MegaZAC
Surprisingly enough, this receiver doesn't have the DSP chip issue. The HDMI board does not get hot, and sound over HDMI works fine.

Regardless of the input, the right channel has noise that is clearly noticeable even on average volume level. The only cases when there's no noise is when VCR input is selected (some tracks on the board are damaged, maybe that's why), or if HDMI input is selected but nothing plugged into it. In all other cases, even when no input is connected I still have the noise.

There's some logic behind it. As soon as I select an input I get only left...

                                          Hi friends

I have reverse engineered this tester, schematic is attached and is complete except for capacitor values. These testers annoyingly have no model number but they are the ones you find on the first page of just about any website if you type in "18650 4-channel tester". There is also a 2-channel variant and a newer 8-channel variant. They are very cheap (about £15) and can measure voltage, current, internal resistance and capacity. They have a multicolour display for all these statistics. They also have terminal blocks so that if you want to use a breakout board...

JVC TH A35 Home cinema repair, only sub and center channel working
                                          by Deedeelabricolade
So I have this home cinema with only the subwoofer and the central speaker working. The unit boots up with blue light, so no protection mode nor short detected. All fonctions are available (radio, cd, aux etc...).
I have the schematic of it but no idea what to look at and how. Seems that the sub and center speaker are both connected to the same relay but I don't get how the 3 other have failed as they are all powered from the same supply? How can I diagnose it safely?

Onkyo HT-R510 turns on and then immediatly off
                                          by redbaron1007
I picked up an Onkyo HT-R510 that when I plug it in and press the power button will turn on and then a couple of seconds later turn itself off. When it turns on you can hear the relay click and then immediately click again and shut the power to the system off. I spent about 5 hours today trying to troubleshoot it and I did make some progress that may not actually tell me anything. It's still not really working and I'm not quite sure where to go next.

Here's everything I've done so far.

The first thing I did was open it up and check for any burn marks exploded parts...
