onkyo tx-sr608 hdmi problems

has anyone had any experience with the onkyo tx-sr608 hdmi problems? I get no sound or audio. this model does nor have the bad caps like the 606 ,667 does.

I think this does also have issues with failed Smd caps causing no sound issues. Have you got images of the boards used ?

if I hookup the bluray player to the aux hdmi input it works,video and sound . the hdmi flashes until it gets the handshake. but if I hook it up to the #1 hdmi the bd/dvd I do not get the flashing hdmi trying to handshake.the same for the rest of the hdmi inputs.

Try heating the hdmi board with a hair dryer to see if you get functionality back.

Is the aux hdmi input, the one on the right side of the board in the photos? That doesn't look like it's accessible from the outside.

The other 5 inputs all seem to go straight into that Silicon Image receiver chip (Q8101 perhaps?). See if you can find a datasheet, or at least a pinout, and see if the supply voltages exist at all the pins they should be, and they're around the value they should be.

yes the hdmi on the right side is the aux hdmi input it has a cable that goes to the front of the unit, I tried the heat gun on the dts chip, no go.

got service manual, it says that the q8161 must be replaced with 5 other ics simply cannot be repaired by me. board must be replaced? any thoughts?
