Sony CD Player loses right channel

    Hello all,

I have the Sony CDP-CE375 CD player (yes, part of a component stereo system, quaint, I know). There is a "turntable" that holds 5 discs. It extends from the front to load discs and it is almost as wide as the unit itself. It has been a popular model for Sony.

Recently, when I played a disc, there was no sound in the right channel. So I switched the "audio out" cables to the back of my 1987 Fisher one-disc player and played a disc. Both channels were fine on the Fisher.

I really feel cheated. I don't even know how to load the Sony up with 5 CDs or how to tell the remote which disc to play. I have probably had this unit for 5 years and I have hardly even used the thing.

I have a manufacturer service manual from audio dot manualsonline dot com (for models 275 and 375). I'll try the headphone jack shortly. The 'optical out' jack may let me bypass some parts (A/D converter? amplifier?) and narrow the problem down further, but I don't have any optical cables.

Any ideas? I do NOT have a scope. My father had a DuMont oscilloscope in the basement for years, but we don't even know if it even worked.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

(I hate to buy a new 5-disc CDP-CE500, of some other brand of component CD player, but my repair skills [and spare time] are really pretty low.....)

Strangely, the problem went away as suddenly as it appeared. If the problem happens many more times in the next 18 months or so, I'll look for bad solder joints.

(Interesting, the headphone jack circuitry really cuts the bass out of the music.)

And I'm sorry, I meant to say "carousel" not "turntable" in my first post.

      Thanks!

old X58 triple channel board... memtest86 memory speed?
        by eccerr0r
Anyone run memory speed tests with an old X58-based triple channel 1st gen or any other >2 channel board? The one I have is a Gigabyte I think.

Anyway I had four 4GB DDR3-1333 modules in the 6 memory slots and got around 11GB/sec memory speeds assuming that it went dual channel since it didn't have enough modules for triple channel. Now I stuck in two more 4GB modules, but they are DDR3-1600. I'm still getting 11GB/sec speeds according to memtest86...

Just wondering, anyone do memory speed analysis on these triple (and higher) channel memory boards? Are there any...

Sony DVD player stuck tray (DVP-SR310P)
        by bogosort

        Hello,

I have a Sony DVD player with a stuck tray. It seems that moving or pressing on the tray makes it work.

        Anyone knows why?

        Thank you....

Reverse engineering of 18650 4-channel tester
        by spleenharvester
        Hi friends

I have reverse engineered this tester, schematic is attached and is complete except for capacitor values. These testers annoyingly have no model number but they are the ones you find on the first page of just about any website if you type in "18650 4-channel tester". There is also a 2-channel variant and a newer 8-channel variant. They are very cheap (about £15) and can measure voltage, current, internal resistance and capacity. They have a multicolour display for all these statistics. They also have terminal blocks so that if you want to use a breakout board...

Sony CFS-5000S radio cassette player no FM reception
        by mikey5791
        Hi forum members,

In the past i have had many helpful hints from generous forum members in diagnosing and solving issue related to most of my electrical things.

Fyi, i have been keeping this unit of Sony radio cassette player as the cassette belting has worn off but the radio has been working fine before. Recently, out of a sudden i found out i can't get any radio reception at all (no signal from FM,MW or SW band) except some buzzing warp noise from the speakers.

I opened the casing inside and checked for any dry solder, burned component or loose wires...
