Re: ONkyo TX-NR626 Check SP Wire
From memory, I think if you hold down display and the power button, release display and press the tone button, you should get an internal temperature reading. My 609 reads around 23 degrees on first power on and will idle somewhere mid 30s-40s ish (and it's got no ventilation around it..!)

Re: ONkyo TX-NR626 Check SP Wire
Quiescent current = the 6mV reading you took from the test points..! (before anyone jumps in and says the current can't be taken in mV and that it doesn't make sense; this is word for word from the service manual!)
The Pre-Amp section does run hot, mind, but you shouldn't be able to feel anything more than mild warmth if you put your hand on the top of the heatsink. Worth running through and checking each channel is in spec after 6-8 minutes of power-on time (no inputs or outputs connected).Leave a comment:

Re: ONkyo TX-NR626 Check SP Wire
I don't know anything about that quiescent current, or what to do about it.
I'm not an expert.
I have already turned it on with a 3W resistor and it's working.
The pre-amp section, seems quite hot.
I have transferred the fan's plug to the empty one, to run constantly. I have done it, on my other 616 also.Leave a comment:

Re: ONkyo TX-NR626 Check SP Wire
At 0.006V yes that's fine - Sorry I've just scrolled up and read the rest of your posts since.
On these 626s, often replacing the 0.22 ohm resistor will lead to a monstrously high quiescent current on that one channel as it usually takes out some of the resistor network I mentioned previously. Keep an adapter on it as you power it on and be prepared to pull the plug if it starts to ramp.
I will try and get you the proper information for the above for before your 0.22 replacements arrive. I'm no longer working for the Onkyo warranty centre so don't have immediate access to the service manuals (if I'd seen this a week ago there'd have been no problem..!)Leave a comment:

Re: ONkyo TX-NR626 Check SP Wire
Thanks, so it seems like what I'm measuring it's fine, no adjustment needed.
I have purchased the 0.22 ohm resistors, from Ebay.Leave a comment:

Re: ONkyo TX-NR626 Check SP Wire
Across the two test points, (white plastic base with two pins sticking up) Onkyo specification calls for 9mv per FL FR and C channels and 6mv across all others.
As I said, I haven't got the service manual to hand to prove it but that is the correct specification.
Cut off an old fan connector and glue it to the end of a biro pen, run the wires out of the other end and splice them into some banana plugs for your meter. Nice, cheap adapter!Last edited by artois7; 12-07-2014, 11:22 AM.Leave a comment:

Re: ONkyo TX-NR626 Check SP Wire
This one, it was in protect mode, so it doesn't apply.
In my opinion this type of defect should be included as well in a recall.
To me, it seems like some final transistors are not properly tightened down and they eventually will fail.Leave a comment:

Re: ONkyo TX-NR626 Check SP Wire
It may not apply here but some of these Onkyo Receivers can be repaired no charge under Onkyo's Special Service Program http://www.onkyousa.com/Support/ Check your model/serial to see if it qualifies.

Re: ONkyo TX-NR626 Check SP Wire
Then I have no idea what those two pins are connected to and if they are for bias adjustment or not, but you do have have another channels that have the same 0.22 Ohms resistors for the power amp section, you can take the voltage reading and see what you get compared to the one channel that you just repaired, typical bias current for the output transistor is between 30~60mA range, it is set to give minimum crossover distortion but too much bias will cause transistor to get hot, such as the one with Class A amplifier.Last edited by budm; 12-07-2014, 01:10 AM.Leave a comment:

At that dual pin test point. It's like PC fan connector.Leave a comment:

Are you saying you are reading 0.006V across 0.22 Ohm?Leave a comment:

Re: ONkyo TX-NR626 Check SP Wire
You can measure the Voltage drop on the 0.22 Ohm Emitter resistor which will represent the current draw through the power transistor.
Do you know what the bias current should be? Just multiply the 0.22 Ohm with the bias current to get the voltage drop on the resistor.
I.E. 50mA bias current = 0.22 x 50mA = 11mV.Leave a comment:

Re: ONkyo TX-NR626 Check SP Wire
isolate the power to the amp circuit and put a current meter inline.
then ground the input and ajust for minimum current.Attached FilesLeave a comment:

Re: ONkyo TX-NR626 Check SP Wire
Nothing happens.
I have tried uTorrent too and it can't parse the link.
That link it's complete?
Back to the receiver, it works!!!!
How to adjust the bias?
There are two pin test points, close to the final transistors and each channel has an adjustable resistor, on the pre amp board.
I believe, that these receivers fail with this error, because some final transistor are not tightened properly. I mean, I could tighten a half a turn on some screws.
Anybody has a good source of 0.22 ohm/5W dual resistor?
I have only 3W one.Last edited by tibimakai; 12-07-2014, 12:16 AM.Leave a comment:

I have tested it out of the circuit and it's bad. 30 ohms and 101 ohms.Leave a comment:

Is that tested out of circuit or in? The caps are in parallel IIRC. I have no access to a service manual right now but I will try and get one.Leave a comment:

by CDNBrewerHello Everyone,
I have an Onkyo TX-SR353 Audio/Video Receiver (5.1 ch with HDMI) that I am having a really hard time diagnosing and I'm about to throw this in the junk and go buy a new unit that is on sale until the 7th.
Symptoms:- Intermittent (part of the reason why i'm having a hard time isolating problem), sometimes will work for 10+h at a time without issue
- Original symptom was wife reported loud banging noise (like someone was banging on the wall with their fists) from the LEFT SURROUND speaker and then the unit shut off.
- I swapped the Left and Right surround

by rddubeHello everyone,
I guess I need help from the masters to try and find what is frying a 2SC5669 transistor on the left channel of this front center Amp for a NAD T752.
Was working perfectly and all of a sudden I heard a pop, and then a glow from the amp. Not only did the 2SC5669 burn a leg, but R520 which is a 220 ohm resistor partially burned - it now measures 110 ohms.
I bought this amp second hand fairly cheap as it was not working, it went into protection mode. I finally traced it down to the same transistor Q510, the one that just popped. It was shorted...-

by ai.need.helpHello,
I have a problem with my Onkyo TX-8050 Receiver. I got it from aftermarket and it was just delivered today.
It doesn't play music. There is no real output from:
pre-out
amp-out A and B
phones out
The only real sound I hear is a humming from the speakers when I play a song from usb or select a analog source. And when stopping and starting songs from usb or switching sources, I hear a crack from the speakers.
I tested with analog-input, usb and radio.
I know that there is a common problem with...-

by ShotwellCohoHey, I have an Onkyo TX-NR636 which briefly turns on, flashes check SP wire and then shuts down.
I have followed this thread to troubleshoot https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=42365
However I have so far been unsuccessful - here is what i have done
Found shorted main transistors on Right Channel, replaced both. Replaced some shorted 0.22ohm resistors for the same channel. Checked all components on vertical board (pre-amp i think) for this channel, replaced a bunch of resistors and a couple of transistors.
Put everything...-

by wnlewisOK. I got the rocker switch figured out thanks to the good advice on this forum.
Now I need to figure out the correct wire to go to the switch from the broiler element and from the oven element.
This is a Whirlpool RDE3340 electric range.
The common wire on the switch appears to have a high temperature insulating material. I am guessing that both the wire to the broiler and the wire to the oven elements also need relatively high temperature insulation. What do I need to look for? The broiler is rated at about 2400 watts.
