Worked perfectly! Thank you LBTT1121, you rock! Could you explain quickly how it's done, I noticed you changed some areas of the bios with just a few characters ? Thanks again!...Last edited by rddube; 05-22-2025, 05:36 AM.

Hello Friends,
Dell Latitude 7400

Bios password protected, please help and thank you in advance!...

Well why in the world would you have it open all the time on the BIOS password? That's what operating systems are for, password protection. But anyhow, did you test your keyboard, i.e. plug in a known USB keyboard and try your password this way?...

I think you are confusing the Windows password with the Bios password, they are not the same. Look for a solution to recover or remove your Windows password, but check that you don't have caps on or that your keyboard maybe sending the wrong letters. Try plugging in a USB keyboard and try it with that....

Ok, well if you are convinced you have the right Bios, then the only other thing is that you have a hardware problem. "so i replaced from the fully working 7310 the bios chip UC5 and two other winbonds UT2 and UT9 but still the same behavior." means you used hot air I suppose - might have inadvertently unsoldered a resistance, capacitor, or something in the process. Check around those chips to see if you might have something that is misplaced. If you need help, post some clear and close photos of the areas you worked on. How would you rate your level of skill in using hot air ?...

So ? Doesn't matter. You want to fix it or just abandon? Cleaning the ME of a Bios has nothing to do with the CPU brand or type....

Ok, so read this thread https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubleshooting-hardware-devices-and-electronics-theory/troubleshooting-laptops-tablets-and-mobile-devices/bios-requests-only/92419-lenovo-thinkpad-e14-bios - go in the same section and upload your original bios and ask someone to Clean the ME.https://Ok, so read this thread [url...nd ask someone...

Had that happen to me once and it turned out that it was the power supply not providing enough current - can you measure the current coming from your power supply? If not, do you have another power supply you could test with, one with higher amp rating? Also, I noticed in the photo you have circled a small capacitor that heats up. Did you try removing it?

The only reason I am asking is that removing the chip and the laptop boots doesn't mean the chip is bad, it could just be making the connection to a shorted area of the MB. You've got voltage coming in on pins 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 32 with a bunch of capacitors on those pins, check that there is no short there with the chip removed. Check all other pins except 33 which is ground to make sure there is no short anywhere else. There is another bunch of capacitors on the output lines (pins 20 to 25). Been there, seen this as you replace the chip with a supposedly new one (depends where you ordered it)...

Was your fan plugged in when you checked the mb with a thermal camera? Could be your fan that is shorted? Also, how did you measure the output pins with the chip already removed ?...Last edited by rddube; 02-26-2025, 06:25 PM.

You might want to take a look at the schematics and try and find in which area the chip is. Could be one of it's outputs that is shorted ?

Sounds to me like a corrupt BIOS, so I would get a CH341 adapter, reflash the BIOS (you can probably get a dump here on Badcaps) and I think you should be back in business. Make sure if there are more than 1 bioses to flash both. Let us know.
