Car Stereo LED's Burnt Out - Replace?

Hi,

The control panel of my car stereo has a couple of the LEDs burnt out and I would like to ask a couple of questions:

• I checked the LEDs using "continuity" on my VOM - is this the best method to determine if they are burnt out? Two of them had no continuity.
• To remove/replace them I was planning on just cutting the wire leads and pulling them out - then resolder new ones - is this the way to go?
• How can I figure out where to get replacements? What voltage are they - will the LEDs have that info on them?

• I think that the diode check setting would be best, as they are diodes after all.
• Yes, but it would probably be better to desolder the old ones rather than cutting the leads.
• You could try measuring the voltage being applied to them.

Are they White LED's? The meter probably cannot supply enough voltage and current to turn on the White LED. You can use a 9V battery and 1K resistor in series with the LED, that should be enough to light up 1 LED, you have to observe the polarity of the LED.

Those are miniature incandescent lamps inside a sleeve, not LEDs.
