On page 11 there is the power supply schematic. Do you have those voltages: 10V, 12V? What do you measure on the other pins?

Thought I had the proper service manual but I guess it's for a HT-R591 not a 591.. any chance you have it to share?

          I have the same thing.
May not be much of difference between them.
Maybe the 590, it's a European version of the 591.
Did you compared the schematic with he actual pcb designation, if the parts designation match, then you can use it.

On P911 I see 32.5v on one side and 13.4v on the other side

Do you have those on your Onkyo?

That's what I was reading right off the pins but noticed I had a bad ground.. off the main transformer output I'm seeing 23.5v off each pin. Not sure what it should be though

I have the same problem. I noticed that the joins coming out of the PCB on the rear side of the transformer had some golden glazing all over them. I used the needle of my ohm-meter and scraped that crud off from between the joints(with it unplugged). Turned back on and so far so good... I think that stuff was causing some current to be leaking across the joints. I hope this fixes it. I was about to buy a new receiver.

well, my excitement was short lived. i turned on some tunes and was just broke the good news to my wife when it cut off and started doing its stupid relay dance again looks like I have to figure out how to test that thermal fuse...

Can I remove the thermal fuse and just test the unit by bridging that connection with a jumper? I plan to unsolder just one end of it. I can't find one like it. Only higher amperage or higher temp ones.

@tibimakai did you use a 3A fuse or one of the many 10A available on ebay? I can't find anything that's close to 145C and 3A. I feel like I can use a higher amperage one and just get close enough temperature...

I'm not an expert, but I would do it, maybe using a fuse just in case.

Good call, I don't have any non-automotive fuses laying around (I don't think). I'll go try to find one and use it. I'll let you guys know. @r3ap3r911, any luck figuring out your problem?

Well, it turned out I did have some 250V 5A fuses laying around. I put one between two test leads and bridged the connection between the yellow wire and the center pin on the transformer and was sucessfully able to watch an uninterrupted hour of comedy with the wife and friend. Looks like that thermal fuse is my culprit as well. I am not sure how you got it out of there by just removing the plastic pieces, but I am about to try it myself. I looked very carefully under the plastic and can't see the fuse under there. Will dig into it tonight probably. Oh and I found a 142C 10A 250V fuse at a local Radio Shack. I figure 3C isn't too much a difference. Going to try it.

What was the importance of wrapping it in heatshrink tubing?

                                            Hi all!!

Ok just got a Onkyo SKW-593 sub woofer that has no power person told me that it smoked and that his GF let the volume full when she powered off the amp and when he came to turn it on the sub played but then suddenly smoke was coming out, didn't say from where. So opened it up and saw a resistor made of metal (pic) but can't see any writing on metal par so what ever was written on it was burnt. So I'm kinda stuck here with this. I did ask for a repair or schematics in the other group section and waiting for this but I hope someone here might lend me a hand to try and identify...

                                            Hello Everyone,

I have an Onkyo TX-SR353 Audio/Video Receiver (5.1 ch with HDMI) that I am having a really hard time diagnosing and I'm about to throw this in the junk and go buy a new unit that is on sale until the 7th.

                                            Symptoms:
                                            • Intermittent (part of the reason why i'm having a hard time isolating problem), sometimes will work for 10+h at a time without issue
                                            • Original symptom was wife reported loud banging noise (like someone was banging on the wall with their fists) from the LEFT SURROUND speaker and then the unit shut off.
                                            • I swapped the Left and Right surround
                                            ...

                                            Hello!

I'm looking at an original Xbox PSU: Foxlink ftps-0002 rev. B. The 12 V output is too low, and the 5 V output is too (?) high. Unfortunately I don't have an oscilloscope but only a DMM for diagnosis.

                                            Measured voltages with no load:

                                            After rectifier diodes
                                            12V: 6.17 V
                                            5V: 5.67 V

Secondary transformer pins AC measurement (really don't know if this says anything)
                                            12V: 2-2.5 V
                                            5V: 1.04 V

I also have another (working) Xbox psu from Delta. The same measures there, in order, being: 10.79,...

Is it possible for transformer substitution?

                                            Hi all,
Got this local made DC power supply (12/14V) given free as the transformer has melted. There is no marking or indication to identify what type or rating of transformer used.
Fyi,. I had a busted autogate mainboard with transformer with marking 13-0-13 . Is this the 13v dc type transformer?
                                            My questions are
                                            1. How do i test to see if the transformer is in good working condition?
                                            2. Can this transformer (marking 13-0-13) be used to replace the melted transformer on the DC power supply?
Hope you guys understand what i was asking. My intention is...

                                            3PHASE STEP-DOWN Transformer in Check
                                            by dennis_elx33
                                            Hello All,

i would like to post an interesting topic regarding 3-phase stepdown transformer which we suspect to cause an overcurrent (138A) which resulted to power tripped off of the HV power supply (80KV output).

                                            Problem statement: Power tripped Off

Initial Problem: Found 2 IGBT and 2 rectifier diodes shorted (burnt).

                                            Action Done:
                                            1) Replaced the faulty parts with good spare.
                                            2) Measured impedance of the 3phase input lines and found that L2 to L3 has 23.3ohm while other pairs are 51Kohm. This pins will...
