i guess the fridge kicked on at the same time i was using the microwave. my power strip clicked off. i turned it back on and thr fridge started making a horrible clunking/clicking noise. i unplugged it because i was worried something was damaged. should i try to plug it back in and see if it goes away?

Re: emerson mini fridge clunking noise after power outage
Compressors have a safety swtich inside that doesn't allow them to be powered up again for a few minutes of being powered down. This can make a buzz/clunk noise depending on the compressor. Leave it unplugged for 10~15 minutes and plug it in again, it should go away.<--- Badcaps.net Founder

Re: emerson mini fridge clunking noise after power outage
It may of been the compressor trying to start . If you try to restart one that was just running it has head pressure . It will equlize in a few minutes .Comment

This is similar to the start device you have, except there's sometimes no capacitor, start or run, on those small fridges:

The "DC24V" refers to the input voltage of the three phase inverter that powers it.
Isn't that neat? A little tiny compressor that runs on three phase AC!Last edited by kaboom; 11-01-2014, 07:22 PM."pokemon go... to hell!"

Re: emerson mini fridge clunking noise after power outage
I will assume that Shovenose's fridge's compressor is the standard type and not like the 3 ph one in the pic. A 3 ph compressure would have lots of starting torque , and would have started with head pressure , but i would guess that the controll board for that 3 ph. compresure would have a timer keeping it from restarting for 3- 5 min. any way . All the newer dit. hvac thermostats have 5 min. timers in them for compresor safety .Comment

Re: emerson mini fridge clunking noise after power outage
Is the clunking coming from inside the compressor, or is at one of its legs that sits on rubber bushings? Because a bad bushing can make a compressor clunk at start-up or turn-off.Comment

Re: emerson mini fridge clunking noise after power outage
Just an update, it started clicking a little bit again, I unplugged it for about a day (yes, I relocated the contents into the big fridge temporarily) and now it's fine again.
If it does it again it's getting returned.Comment

Re: emerson mini fridge clunking noise after power outage
If the fridg. has a forced air cond. check , make sure its clean . A dirty condencer can run up the head pressure and might make the compressure make noise . If its a coil up the back or in the side walls , make sure its got air moving around it .Comment

by tony359Hi all,
I am working on a sound processor, it tends to overheat so I fitted a fan inside. The fan is connected to the +15V of the PSU via a DC-DC converter based on the LM2596 to reduce the voltage to around 10.5V.
Unfortunately the analogue circuitry is picking up the noise from the fan in two ways:
1. The fan is close to the analogue section, the motor itself gets into the outputs so I'll have to move it somewhere else
2. Even with the fan running outside of the case, there is still some noise which is clearly going back to the processor via power line....2 Photos -
by MegaZACSurprisingly enough, this receiver doesn't have the DSP chip issue. The HDMI board does not get hot, and sound over HDMI works fine.
Regardless of the input, the right channel has noise that is clearly noticeable even on average volume level. The only cases when there's no noise is when VCR input is selected (some tracks on the board are damaged, maybe that's why), or if HDMI input is selected but nothing plugged into it. In all other cases, even when no input is connected I still have the noise.
There's some logic behind it. As soon as I select an input I get only left...-

by courtcircuitHello
I have since a long time a Philips HTS8010S/01 which has been old but was doing the job.
Since a few days, it starts by making a weird "static" nois when switches on for a few seconds to a minute and then works like a charm.
Noise loudly outputs from the 3 channels, even if no signal is sent by the controler.DVD to the subwoofer/amp unit.
I was thinking of a soldering that was starting to be damaged and that was only doing the job after a few seconds of heating, most probbaly on the power board
Removed each of tyhe boards

by mikey5791Hi all forum members,
Few days ago, i might have forgotten to close my home fridge freezer door completely. The next day, the ice cubes and frozen meat almost melted halfway and the freezer doesn't feel cool. I shut it off, wipe dry and let it air dry for one whole day. The next day i switched on the fridge, the compressor run for a second and it shuts off(no vibration and no sound at all) only the internal freezer compartment fan is running but is not cooling even i switched on a full day.
After shut off, i dismantle the rear water pan holder and reached to the compressor wiring.... -
by karatzdiHello,
I know some might say... just buy another one. Sell it as parts..!
So had this AMP for quite some time. Recently I saw light smoke coming out of the AMP. Had my fire extinguisher close by. Just kidding. Turned immediately all devices off from mains.
Let things cool a bit, and opened up the amp device. I clearly saw on the main board which hosts the 5X amp (5.1), 3 10 ohms 1W resistors had their leads looking black, while the rest of the remaining 2 x 10 ohms were brownish as being installed from factory.
Spent some time downloading the Service...-
