I am not sure if this is the right forum to ask this question or not but I will ask it anyway and take my chances. I plugged my Canon Power Shot Camera into a 9 volt dc power supply and of course the camera is rated for 3.15 volts, I wouldn't even try to explain why I did this but now my camera will not work, will not turn on and the lens is stuck out? I think my SD card is fried as will? It do not show up in my card reader? The questions are; what possible damage did I do to my Camera? Is it repairable? Where do I go for help? Is it possible to download a repair manual for this camera?

Other than that, you'll probably have to open the camera and look for shorted components. Basically look for a fuse or a diode near the input jack.

Re: Canon Power Shot A540
Thanks Momaka appreciate your reply. The only thing I tried was to add fresh batteries but no go. I have not tried opening it up but looks as though I may have to? I have searched the web for a service manual but can't seem to find one.Comment

Re: Canon Power Shot A540
chances are high it fried more than just a fuse. (especially because you say the SD card is also dead)
fuses are usually labelled as Fxxx on the boards.
some examples of what they could look like

Re: Canon Power Shot A540
With a multimeter, check resistance between power supply input and ground. If you get a short circuit or open circuit, there may be some chances of saving it.
Also, if you have the camera already opened, take some pictures of the circuit board(s) and post them here.Comment

Re: Canon Power Shot A540
In better news, a new motherboard for this camera should be straight-forward to find on the likes of eBay if it is fried.
Word of advice though - there is a high capacity cap inside the camera which may still be charged: DON'T get shocked by it, it bloody hurts and may also cause you to drop the remainder of the camera on the floor. Ask me how I know!?

Re: Canon Power Shot A540
multimeter reads 2 ohms between positive and negative.
i could not locate anything saying fuse on the motherboard,
i found a slightly big smd with 2 terminals named 33 62rnj with a diode kind of marking, i assumed it is a zener and removed it but no go, but the resistance is still the same b/w positive and negative.
even i am of opinion something more than a fuse or zener is fried as SD card is fried and sd card holder is on a diff board not main motherboardComment

Re: Canon Power Shot A540
If you decide you want to troubleshoot it further, just keep removing components connected between positive and negative until you eliminate the short. It may be a ceramic cap, and it may be a small voltage regulator or transistor. One easier way to find it, or at least narrow down what it could be is to briefly apply 1v to 2v between positive and negative, preferably with a 1A or more rated power supply. See which component gets hot and remove it, them measure resistance.Comment

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?by Tynan DillI was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.
Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.
I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.
The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.
With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

by PantherDaveHi all!
I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅
I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

by GLISITHi all,
TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!
I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!

by joaquinmjuanHello, I have a Canon TS8350 printer. The problem is that when I turn it on, "CANON" appears on the screen, but it never goes away. You can leave it on for a whole day, and it doesn't go away. Does anyone know how to fix this? I've tried unplugging it, but nothing. I've also tried holding down POWER, but nothing. In fact, once it turns on, it can't be turned off with the Power button. I've also held down Power and then plugged it into the Power supply, and the power light flashes once and doesn't turn on, but then when I press Power again, it turns on. Currently, it's a nearly new paperweight,...05-07-2025, 12:26 AM

by sam_sam_samI have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump
One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy... - Loading...
