New component ID of the day...

Not sure where I got it, I did not desolder it, so I haven't the foggiest idea where it came from.

The reverse side looks no different, except it's all black with no printing on it.

looks like an old cap, did you meter it?

It is a transient voltage suppressor ( TVS diode as same as zener diode ), responses time is 100 ns, faster than Varistor.

It should come from a power supply board. When you were collected useable parts from it, you cut it with a needle-nosed plier and you may not know how to use it or you don't need to use it, so it’s been in your parts box since then.

Could we have a more difficult quiz?

That's the problem, I didn't collect it, someone else did

If it's a transient protection diode, aren't there more useful information than just response time? Like perhaps voltage?

I haven't metered it at all yet, in fact, I'm not sure where it is. I'll have to go find it...

My thinking is that it's some sort of hybrid... what's inside I have no idea.

It could be a capacitor, 100nf, here is another one: https://www.edn.com/electronics-blog...ird-components

I Have a suspicion it could also be a 100nS delay line

I don't know either, probably save ink. you know, right now, new SMD resistors don't even have any marking.

...the unusual hollow construction...is because the TVS is PN-NP two flat PN junction (diodes) combined together

The problem is that the author was not sure what it was. I'm pretty sure it is the PN Junction semiconductor TVS diode.

Aha...Thanks R_J, that was what I needed to see. After losing my main portable capacitance meter to failure of some sort (ugh... got tired of tracing tracks) I haven't tried it on a capacitance meter. Will see how it shows up on my Sencore.

So... answer is... a thermpacitor! Well, need to check it to be sure.

the thermistor is a resister no needs to be so big (thick).

No clue. Thermally sensitive capacitor so it will offset the thermal effects of something else. Might be useful if someone doesn't want to add a thermistor.

I really should get some sort of better portable capacitance meter, or simply build one of those avr transistor testers. But I do happen have a bench top Sencore LC meter, alas, it doesn't even do ESR... It has, however, determined L and Q for many an inductor for me, which are the primary benefits of the tool...

I strongly recommend this, I used every day, digital ESR meter to you and the avr transistor tester is must have tool. picture 3 avr transistor tester still has smd capacitor on it.

Google is constantly improving, by 2040, Google will have a spectrum analyzer and CT scanner App for your cellphone then they will tell you....it is TVS and you might (86.3%) have osteoporosis in the future.

                                Yes, indeed that's the forum.
Looks like this is some kind of a watch display controller, but nothing else comes out from the markings on the IC.
It's not my project/problem, but just got surprised how the Internet has not heard about the AC5962

These testers annoyingly have no model number but they are the ones you find on the first page of just about any website if you type in "18650 4-channel tester". There is also a 2-channel variant and a newer 8-channel variant. They are very cheap (about £15) and can measure voltage, current, internal resistance and capacity. They have a multicolour display for all these statistics. They also have terminal blocks so that if you want to use a breakout board...

Hi everyone, I recently acquired an HP EliteBook 840 G4 (6050A2854301-MB-A01) that I'm hoping to bring back to life. I'm fairly new to laptop repairs but eager to learn and willing to put in the effort to understand and fix this. Any advice or guidance would mean a lot!

Before this incident, the laptop would show a power/charging light whenever it was plugged in. However, now it's completely unresponsive—no lights, no power, nothing. I've been doing some research and understand

                                        Hello friends,

I have a problem with this printer Xerox Versalink C505 , printing perfectly in B&W but bad in color.

There is a little yellow ghost printing around color print.
So little text in color is unreadable.

I already change drum cyan & yellow with no success.
I try (i think) all avalable calibration in printer menu..
(black drum is dead but it's not the problem i think)

I'm not a printer specialist,if anyone has an idea?

                                        Thanks !...

                                        Hi Folks

I need your help in a design problem. I have a power source that provide 3.3V, 5 V, +12V, and -12V. Each output is rated at 5A individually. Now i need to create a 4 way switch which will allow me to select the output I want. Unfortunately cannot find a 5 way rotary switch that can handle 5A. The ones i find are too big and used for main electricity board. Hence not suitable for my project.

So what i was thinking was to do the following
                                        - Use normal 5 way rotary switch rated for 500mA.
                                        - Connect the output of this to 4 channel 5V relay. So...

How to desolder this component beside chemical cap ?

Hello, I need your advise pls ?
The black component at the center of picture is dead, I need to replace it (it's a Nikon D5 camera). It's easy to desolder with hot air. But beside, there is a chemical cap, and I don't want to destroy it.

                                        How do you do ?
I have low melt solder and good capton. Is it better to desolder the cap (for safe) with iron, then desolder-resolder the black component with hot air ? Or these caps are strong enough and capton and other cover can avoid hot air damage ?...
