Heh, I just found my AR-3 causes random nuisance tripping of one of my GFCIs. I was wondering why the GFCI started tripping ... until I realized that Heathkit AR-3 was a new addition to that leg.

I noticed that I can get some small sparks if I touch the antenna ground wire connector on the AR-3 to a ground. I suspect I should take a look at the isolation there, it may still be 'normal'...

Just check the leakage current to see how high it is.

Looks like it uses two 0.02uF capacitors to the chassis, so that should be less than 1mA RMS -- should be in the acceptable region of the GFCI... that is, if they don't resistively leak (good Y-caps?) or if there's something else on the line that's also leaking...

Initially, it started to give random failures, 3 months ago, after which it stopped delivering current. In addition, there was some noise in it.
          After another month he died.
I thought that some filter capacitor had found its way to the end, so I started doing some research and remembered that there is a really complete review on tomshardware:

So I started to take it apart, and upon very careful analysis I discovered that:

Carpet overlocker motor gradually increases speed by itself
          by CptChronic
I have an overlocker for stitching carpets and once I turn it on and leave it on the slowest setting, the speed will slowly increase by itself. When this happens, the voltage between the speed increase potentiometer, increases by 0.001V. I've stripped the thing down and the circuit board looks fine. Could this be a faulty potentiometer? Or something else? There is some soot inside the housing near the transformer and drive belts

Acer Iconia W700 need help finding usb receptacle replacement
          by triplefour
i took this job because it seemed simple enough and i have the soldering and desoldering gear to accomplish it.

the client gave me his motherboard and a replacement usb jack he had purchased already on ebay. it was supposed to be a simple swap of the usb 3.0 receptacle.

well i got the old one off, and went to put the new one in, when i noticed it wouldnt fit.

the old usb receptacle has 4 pins in the top row and 5 pins in the bottom row.
the new usb receptacle is opposite: 5 pins in the top, and 4 pins in the bottom.

          so apparently...

Newbie about to dive in with the leads. Safety advice please.
          by Cappy Oligan
I'm new to electronic repair. Trying to troubleshoot a Dell monitor that only has an AC port for power. I'm concerned about safety and not getting shocked. Should I order an isolation transformer and plug in the monitor into that and proceed with testing the board inside? Or should I get a DC power supply and limit the amps and connect the voltage to a pin somewhere inside where 19V DC is first expected? Or both? Thanks.

Acer Nitro 5 AN515-55 no HDMI output.
          by Jayanta
          Hello, forum people.

I have an Acer Nitro 5
Model Number: AN515-55 Part Number: NH.Q7NSI.001
Motherboard: Compal GH51M LA-K861P Rev 1A with 1650 Ti graphics.

My laptop was working fine until I made a grave mistake of changing the thermal pad and paste because my laptop was getting old and pretty hot. After changing and successfully testing temperatures, I was shocked when I tried to connect my external display, a 1440p 75Hz monitor, to it. My display never showed up; it always said 'no signal.' I tried swapping the HDMI cable, using both source 1 and 2 on...
