Replacing a battery with a higher mAh rating one

Good day folks. This may seem like a completely and utterly idiotic question that's been asked a thousand times, but please hear me out: let's say I got a device, doesn't matter exactly what, since the principle is the same and I want to "upgrade" its battery. By upgrade I mean install one with a higher mAh rating. Now this is nothing new: plenty of people have asked this before and I'm sure there are many reads out there on the subject, but another person's opinion never hurts, plus I'm not really interested in knowing whether the device will actually run longer...that's not really the point of the project.

I'm interested in the charging process of a larger-than-intended battery...this is where it gets a bit confusing. I have watched Dave's video on how Li-Ion batteries charge and I kinda know about the constant current and constant voltage modes of a charge IC, but I think these differ from device to device depending on the charging ICs they've got in them. The way I see it, and please don't quote me on this because I'm not an expert, is if the device has a 450mAh battery and I replace it with a 4500mAh battery from a tablet, the charging circuit will not be able to fully charge it because it's a constant current source and the more the battery charges, the more current it requires to charge it any further, so if the battery wasn't intended to be larger than 450mAh, the circuit is "tuned" for that and the maximum charging current will not be enough to push the larger battery past that threshold.....I might be completely wrong though, but it's a bit confusing to be fair. What do you guys think ? Cheers.

Lower charging current = longer time to fully charge the batteries.

Not all USB cables are the same and not all USB power supply are not the same
Have you checked the voltage on the USB charger if it is not above 5 volts it might charge at a slow rate and if your USB uses very thin wire will cause a very big voltage drop that can cause it to charge slow

The reason I mentioned this is IPad Pro has this problem with long USB cables the power supply that I use has voltage adjustment so I can over come the voltage drop

To go in to fast charge mode

The charging board on tablet are a little different than your normal protection board in that it let charge at faster rate however be careful with this thought in that you charge it faster (or hard ) it may not let the battery to fully charge because once it hit 4.2 volts it shut the charging off

temp sensors might have fun if large capacity battery is well low on charge . try and keep circuits cool .
p.s i know nothing about this circuit . all i know is other charging circuits .

Vostro 3400 (LA-K033P) won't charge battery, everything else ok
          by techfreak9356
I bought a Vostro 3400 motherboard (LA-K033P) to upgrade over my damaged Inspiron 5593 (LA-J091P) board. Everything else is ok except for the battery. This battery I am using now is already a replacement one since I disposed of the bloated original one. Back in the Inspiron 5593 motherboard, the battery charges fine and is identified just fine. However, with the upgraded motherboard, suddenly the replacement battery is labeled as "Not a dell battery". When I borrow a similar battery from my colleague (which did not have replacements yet), it is identified and charges just fine.

How can I charge that battery pack?
          by razenxd
          Hello,
it's not a laptop/desktop related question but I figured that someone here will have the right knowledge.
At work we use a few Aldebaran(now Softbank/United Robotics group) Nao Robots which they use some custom 6S li-on battery packs.
Nao robots tends to draw from the battery even if they are shut down, and the BMS tends to be a little aggresive, if the pack stays on a turned off robot for 3 months it's gonna lock and will refuse to charge.

Now, I have noticed a few things.
The "dead" battery, while connected to charger and NOT Charging will...

Acer a515-43 low battery charge voltage

          Hi

          Acer A515-43
          LA-H801P

Fail: Does not charge battery, has low voltaje on connector.

Laptop didn't want to turn on, only charge led blinked.

I found PQB5 (mosfet high battery charger) in short, voltaje in +12.6V_BATT was 19 v ...

I changed it, changed PQB6 too and now battery charger voltage is 4.4V but battery is 3 cell, 11.25v, then is very low to charging.

Laptop turns on without battery and works fine, but with battery turns on and turns off inmediately, I suspect battery bad but I don't know...

Charge a L19D3PDA battery externally from the laptop
          by Klevjetack
Is there a way to externally charge a L19D3PDA battery from the laptop. I have a broken charging port on my laptop and am trying to find a way to charge the battery for it. I have been doing some research and I have found that there is a module, TP4056, that can be used to charge Li-ion batteries. It says it is used to charge single cell Li-ion batteries. The L19D3PDA battery is a three cell battery. Is it possible to use the module to charge my battery and it would just be very slow? Or would that be a bad idea. Is there a different kind of module I can use to charge my Li-ion three cell battery?...

          Latitude 3301 not charge battery
          by dclass-pro
Hi guys I have this dell that with the battery charged it turns on correctly, but if I connect the charger I get the charging symbol but it doesn't charge the battery.
I found the shorted charger PU4401 ISL9538h that had pins 14 and 15 shorted and I replaced it. but it still doesn't charge.
          I noticed 2 things:
          1) without the battery connected if I connect the power supply, on the SDA and SCL pins of the battery I have 0V I measured the resistance with ground and it is very high, if I connect the battery I have 3v on the 2 lines.
          2) if I try to turn it on without the battery...
