Using a pos 12v lead as a "ground cut" (motorcycle)

    Hello,

I wanted to ask you guys a general question about a turn signal buzzer circuit I am trying to finish wiring on my motorcycle.

I have the buzzer working (using two diodes, and a piezo buzzer). However, I did want to add in this functionality where the buzzer would not engage when the brakes are on (brake light switch on).

I've read some conflicting information about using the positive lead from the switched side of my brake light to create a "ground cut". The way suggested is to simple wire the negative lead of the piezo buzzer to the positive switched lead of the brake light. It doesn't make sense to me, but the idea is, when the 12v line to the brake light is 12v+, then the buzzer's ground will be cut.

Would this work , regardless of other wiring on the bike? I've read at least one anecdote from someone saying they had trouble with this. Said it burned out his brake light switch!

Thanks for any ideas, and a diagram of what I am talking about is attached.

What is that GREEN/YELLOW BRAKE LIGHT wire connected to exactly? The lamp filament Voltage supply line?

      bud,

that is the way i understand it, yes. they are saying to connect the negative lead from the piezo , to the positive (switched) lead going to the brake light.

OK, if that is the way the brake lamp is connected as shown in my notes, then that will work.

thanks bud! that worked. I have another 12 volt cycle related question I'll be posting. Hopefully, you can help me out again. Really appreciate it.
