• Re: Panasonic TC-P50ST60. 7 blinks

Did some searching and jogged my memory. SC50 jumper That's the one to remember for salvaging. Jumped it, fiddled with controls, and got audio on HDMI on, key beeps, etc.. I'm assuming this means main and power are likely AOK, but I'll gladly toss SU,SD,SC,SS.

  • Panasonic TC-P50ST60. 7 blinks

    Hello,

I believe one of the gurus has helped me out before with a similar problem with a salvage Panasonic plasma.

The screen on this unit is very likely damaged, so it's not likely going to startup without some "forcing".

When I first attempt power on after a long time with it unplugged, I get the loud buzzing noises, but was also able to hear mainboard function while i was pushing the control buttons. After less then 3 minutes, the set shuts down with 7 blinks, and won't turn on for awhile after that. I tried disco'ing the SC data and power...

  • Re: Looking for help with this sound generator toy

Thanks Bud. Do you think it's likely the IC has failed? Not sure on the surrounding components or how to test in circuit....

  • Looking for help with this sound generator toy

    Hello,

This is a part to a kid's play kitchen setup that I picked up recently at a yard sale. I'd really like to get this working for my son. After putting in new button cell batteries, all I can seem to get out of the circuit is a faint clicking sound upon pressing the buttons/contacts.

I'm not sure what kind of sound it's supposed to produce, but the circuit looks fairly simple, unless there is an IC I'm missing. I've checked voltage at about 4.8 coming out of the battery box, and going to the speaker/transducer. Thanks much for any ideas on this!...

  • Can you help me find the fuse and test this TCON?

I pulled this TCON off a non-working set.

I thought I might keep it, because it's a fairly rare one for me, but not sure if it's likely good or bad. Is there a way I can test the fuse or anything else on it without having it installed on a working set?

  • Need recommendation for soldering station or iron

I have an older , cheap weller soldering station, and 2-3 irons. This is the one that's basically a lamp dimmer, and I think the iron is something like 30 watts. It just does not work well at all for desoldering and resoldering on tv boards.

I'm wanting to get something I can use right now just for light and occasional work on boards. Desoldering components for testing, and being able to resolder. I don't need to do any micro stuff like soldering IC chips, and I don't have much of a budget at all.

Is there a such thing as a cheap iron or station that can do the job...

  • Re: Funai lf501em4f chirping psu. no power on

I'm pretty sure unplugging the mainboard did make the chirp go away.

    bud,

are you saying a picture of the diode I took out of circuit and tested? a picture of that, or the location for which it was removed? I haven't put it back in yet. Would like to try, but unfortunately, I have a crappy soldering gun, and my solder sucker tool has been lost, so all I have now is the crummy gun and some desoldering braid.

Well, I took that one diode out of circuit, and when I tested it , it wasn't shorting anymore

Not sure where to turn on this. Was able to isolate the noise to the power board, and to one half of the board. Guess I just need to know what else to test. Thanks for any ideas!

  • Re: Funai lf501em4f chirping psu. no power on

Well , after further review, it seems all the diodes do read OL in one direction, and .2 to .5 in the other. Except one very small one under a resistor (hard to get to). It appears to be a dead short (in circuit).

If I unplug the ribbon from the PS to the main, the noise stops. I really can't be sure the chirp is coming from the PS or the mainboard. It's hard for my ears to discern the location.

Been trying to test all the diodes. It seems that several may be bad, but I'm not sure if it's possible to test them all in circuit. The one diode that's clearly marked on the board is showing a .4 drop in both directions, which I've read indicates a short. However, another cluster of diodes above it real over 1 in one direction and .2 in another.

I've been doing some research on this, and it seems it may be a shorted diode. Not sure on how to check all that right now, but I have a decent VOM now (bk precision).

I've attached pictures of the PS, and I believe that's where the chirp noise is coming from.

I've noticed others have posted similar problems with these funai/emerson sets. Thanks much for any help!

  • Re: Question about damaged boards and all the scamming bad buyers on ebay

Once you start selling more than a few boards on ebay, it's virtually impossible to re-test. Who has the room and resources to have tv chassis of many models and sizes laying around for the next returned board to roll in? I guess power boards can be bench tested with a meter, but I'm still not quite clear on how definitive that test is, and it doesn't seem easy.

I have 2-3 sharp main boards still sitting around here. returned over a year ago by some idiots. I have no idea if...

  • Re: Question about damaged boards and all the scamming bad buyers on ebay

The point of my OP was how likely or easy is it for a clueless buyer to damage the various boards in the TV. I realize buffer boards are definitely "short-able", but what about LED power boards, main boards, and TCONS? At the moment, some jerk is sending me back an allegedly damaged power board that sold for nearly $100! It was fully tested for many hours, and I tried to fight the return, but was not able. I will fight again in appeal when I get it back, but I'm feeling sick if the buyer has actually...

Flocko, thanks for the interesting comments. You have provided me with more information specific to what I sell, than I have seen on the ebay seller forum in years. If you don't mind, I'm going to PM you. I just have another question or two for you as I am struggling with ebay's horrible return policies. I'm also an American seller, so I'm not sure if it's any different here.

  • Question about damaged boards and all the scamming bad buyers on ebay

I just wanted to ask people here their opinion on this....

If you sell a working main board, or power board, or really any board to someone on ebay, how likely is it that they (or their broken set) could actually damage the board? I am talking either by improper installation, or some short along the way. I've been selling some boards , and have run into my share of scammers. Lately, it's been power boards for larger LED sets. I've also got back a lower cost TCON that the buyer somehow managed to burn out, as I could tell he sent back the same one I sent him.

    Thanks for...

  • Re: Samsung HP-R4252 Plasma. Bad mainboard?

Tom, it looks like you may have been the one to reply on the other forum Thanks for any ideas on where I should start with this one. It's really heavy, so I don't have it on the bench yet, but plan on doing that soon. I'd like to either isolate the problem and harvest the parts, or maybe fix it, if not too much money. Thanks.

  • Re: Samsung HP-R4252 Plasma. Bad mainboard?

Wanted to follow up on this to see if anyone had any other ideas. (please)

Tried plugging in the set from a cold start. This time, it was again just the splotches. The only operational sound was the chime from cycling power on and off.

I later left the room to program my universal remote. After about 1/2 hour I heard the turn off chime, as if the set had turned off on its own for lack of signal or some other reason. When I went back, the PDP was warm to the touch, but the screen completely black. Did not appear...

  • Re: Samsung HP-R4252 Plasma. Bad mainboard?

Forgot to add that the display is different now (or after warm up). Splotchy colorful random flashes. Looks like the "crazy TV" in a darkened room, or a "strobe" effect. Little/no picture or patterns are recognizable, and the flashing is constant.

  • Re: Samsung HP-R4252 Plasma. Bad mainboard?

Thanks! I'm assuming by test patterns, you guys mean going into the service menu, then test patterns?

If so, it seems when I went back to the set, I couldn't do that. This time, I turn it on, and it's only the flashing random splotchy color patterns. System menus weren't working. The only sound was the on/off tone from power cycle.

I'm thinking this may be heat related, and plan on trying to turn it on later, and then hitting the menu right away. Could this be power supply related?
