    An 18V UPS...am I doomed to 6V batteries?

    After having a 1500VA UPS batteries die (Best Power Patriot Pro), I was wondering... This thing uses three 6V batteries in series, using 18V as backup (Standby UPS with AVR). 18V? Ugh. Can't use a 12V battery... or can I?

    Anyone know of some tricks to deal with an 18V standby UPS or am I stuck with buying new 6V batteries (three 6V 12Ah SLA's)?

      Well, depending on how the unit is designed you may be able to modify it to work on 12V. The likely issues will be the transformer windings (the transformer, if it has one, will be wound for 18V to 110/220V step-up, rather than 12V) feedback circuits (if any), and the under-voltage/battery health detection circuits.

      You might get lucky with the transformer if they design it for 12V operation too, it could have spare taps.

      But most likely, it will be a very difficult conversion and it's unlikely to be worth doing.

                  So far, the only UPS units I have seen only use 12V batteries (or a pair of 6V batteries) - a unit requiring an odd number of 6V batteries is a bit unusual.
                  My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

                      Well, 12 volt batteries are more common. Marine deep cycle batteries can be had fairly readily which would do fairly good as UPS batteries.

                      I wonder how cheaply high capacity 6V batteries can be had...

                              I might have to just get another set. It might also be the UPS toasting batteries too. I had bought a set of 3 and after one year I had battery problems - it started beeping when the battery self test failed. I'm not sure if I just had a bad batch or the UPS likes eating batteries.

                                  Hello, all.

                                  Cyberpower Battery Backup Unit.

                                  I bought two new ML18-12 batteries through Amazon (They have already refunded my money for the two batteries as we thought the batteries might have been bad.)
                                  When I got them in, they were not fully charged. I connected them to the UPS and waited 24 hours before connecting any networking equipment.
                                  In parallel, they read 24v, but within 24 hours, the meter on the front of the unit dropped from 4 to 3 bars on the battery charge indicator.
                                  Checking the voltage, it was down to 22v.
                                  I quickly removed everything...

                                  Order my parts from mobilesentrix.com and iPhone batteries have been excellent. Recently got 3x bad A1534 (2015) batteries. All would work until ~30-40+% and drop to < 10% instantly. Typical sign of cheap batteries.

                                  Perhaps the less popular A1534 model's aftermarket batteries are more source limited. Just find it surprising quality from mobilesentrix (usually fairly high quality aftermarket parts) have been so poor.

                                  Hi friends of electronics

                                  What you see in the video and pictures attached is the circuit for charging the batteries of a DC motor.

                                  The problem is that this circuit cannot charge the batteries (3 1800mAH NiMH batteries) any more. When the circuit was OK, its green LEDs lit up one at a time to show that the batteries have charged more. But now that the circuit is flawed, LEDs light up as you see in the video and at the same time successive beeps are heard.

                                  Please help me fix this circuit.

                                  My UPS requires new batteries every ~3 months; in this time frame, an average of about 5 to 10 power flickers or short power interruptions (< 2 minutes) occur.                                   I have also bought these battery packs before on EBay and they are a good source for a battery case that holds 18650 batteries however...
