    testing bulbs for quartz heater?

Hello. I have an Edenpure quartz heater that just up and quit. The elements will not light. I've removed the bulbs and ohmed them but all 3 are showing open.
What should they ohm at? Could all 3 crap out at once?
    Thanks for any help!

Well heck, I put it back together for now.
I'll snap some tomorrow. I will say they look bad, badly discolored and the glass spins freely from the ceramic end caps. The bulbs are part number us001 if that helps.

Well @ $32 a bulb that will be kind of a expensive repair.

                  esp for a scam unit.
1500w of heat is the same in the end regardless whether its a coil of nichrome or a fancy bulb.
                  sounds like those are open.

Re: testing bulbs for quartz heater?

Ya tell me about it. We paid 400 bucks for the thing 2 years ago after tornado damage/no power. It lasted 1 1/2 winters.
After spending $400 I hate to pitch it. So I'm going to go ahead and dump $85 worth of bulbs in it and hope I get a few years out of it.
I do love the thing, even though it is an overpriced space heater!
Thank you guys for easing my mind that the bulbs are in fact junk.

I'm not so sure all 3 ever worked, as the box was re-taped when we bought it at Home Depot.
                    Thanks again!

It doesn't have a traditional light bulb socket, two prong plug is what the element has. I would assume a heating element would have high resistance, but according to my cheap harbor freight multimeter, they are open.
Plus the ceramic is loose from the glass tube so I'm telling myself they gotta be bad, right?

Well I hope anyway, I went ahead and ordered a new set. I will update soon I hope.

we get 3kw versions of those things in europe for $20 - people still dont buy the junk.
the only good use for halogen heaters is to keep food hot in resturants.

if you want to warm a room, nothing beats a fanheater, blow the warmth around the area instead of creating a small hotspot.

Fixed!! All 3 bulbs were in fact bad. Just in case someone does a search in the future, the new bulbs checked at 26.5 ohms.
                              Thanks guys!

try to not get your fingerprints on the quartz. Clean them well and they last a lot longer. Perhaps they got dirty.

more likely they are just low quality.
i figured they would read low resistance but your 26.5ohms sounds about right as it has 3 in paralell.

Yesterday I was installing a new Wifi thermostat for my domestic gas water heater model Vaillant 242/2-3, and accidentlly one wire from mains touched one wire from the thermostat output contacts. Some background - I have one of those chinese diesel heaters, which I'm using to heat a garage. Probably most of you are familiar with that units, but here is some basic info - the main heater body is enclosed with the motherboard+sensors unit inside a plastic case. The heater has a glow plug, that works only when the unit is starting (start the fire in the burner) and stopping (make sure to completely burn the fuel inside the burner) and two fans on a single motor. One fan is used to push fresh air in the burner, the other is used to push cold air in the case and...
