I wanted to remove this glue so i heated it up with a heat gun, just enough so that I could remove the glue on the upper right to replace the Fuhjyyu caps, and also to fix a cold joint on that zener diode. Well, even after letting it cool, right when i put my solder tip to heat up that joint it instantly broke in half. I don't know what I need to know to find a replacement for that little guy.

Re: Zener diode broke in half
Apparently 1 N suggests it is a rectifier diode.
Are there any more clues on the other side? Please upload pictures using attachment function when ask for help on the repair

Re: Zener diode broke in half
Trace out the connection to see how the Cathode and the Anode are connected. Straight shot pictures of both top and bottom side will help. Also where is this board from?Last edited by budm; 11-15-2013, 09:44 AM.Never stop learning

Those glass diodes can be a pain to remove, the heat probably caused a stress failure here, but they crack easily anyway!Muh-soggy-knee

Re: Zener diode broke in half
Thanks for the replies! Here's a picture of the top, this is a daughter board off of a Topower PSU. Looks like that left Fuhjyyu cap is leaking electrolyte, can't even trust the small value ones! The chip on the right that got washed out in the picture is a TL494

Re: Zener diode broke in half
So the Anode of the Diode is connected to pin 11 of that IC LM339, PIN 11 is the non-inverted input of the Op-amp?Never stop learning

Re: Zener diode broke in half
So it may be just small signal diode like 1N4148 (1N914), not zener diode.Never stop learning

Re: Zener diode broke in half
Pentium 4 When I asked if there were any clues on the "other side"
I meant on the other side of the Diode- not the other side of the board.
There seems to be markings other than 1N on the ones on the other side of the board but we cant make them out. Please upload pictures using attachment function when ask for help on the repair
