    MOSFET Tester

Can someone recommend a good mosfet tester? So good that I do not need to remove the transistor off the circuit board for testing

      Re: MOSFET Tester

MOFSET testers are not completely reliable from what I have gathered because the only real way to test a transistor is to actually apply its full load to see if it can handle it, and handle it without overheating...

Once again they scrammed [sic]. Once again they screamed for us to come save them. Sadat woke me up in the middle of the night twice over the phone, 'Save me!' He demanded to send Soviet troops, and immediately! No! We are not going to fight for them."

MOSFET is not an transistor its more complicate than that.

You can measure a shorted one with one DMM, but when you need to do matching for having many in pairs its impossible.
All that you can do is getting genuine and branded stuff and you hope for the best.

I use a Sencore TF 46 Supper Cricket. It was about 600 when I bought it new along time ago.
Sadly Sencore does not make electronics test equipment any longer. Their stuff was expensive but very well made. Still about the same price used.

check out this youtube vid; it show how to test for some issues with MOSFET while in circuit.

Atlas DCA - Semiconductor Analyser - Model DCA55

That gives you go/no-go. The next step up is a curve tracer. If that's not enough get a Semiconductor Parameter Analyzer. That what the pros use to generate all those nifty charts and parameter lists.

He's asking for an In-Circuit tester the Atlas DCA and DCA Pro are for testing out of Circuit.

Thanks for stating that Need an in-circuit tester. Hate to desolder only to find the part is ok.

I tried to test a power MOSFET using info I found on the internet ,but the idea did not work. As I was making an inverter had to use that to test them . One of the IRF BC30,s I was using did not work , none of the usual static tests showed anything wrong with it.

In the video I linked to earlier the guy is testing MOSFET's that are still installed in an inverter. It might be the things you already tried or not :-)

i have read before on googling about test mosfet with finger touch. it is good method when i try it out of circuit, but i have same symptom about in circuits mosfet tester regardless i have reading when mosfet fails, it is most shorted between gate and source pin, and this forum ever discuss it too at "2 second to black" lcd tv troubleshoot. it says when resistance below 30 ohms, it is suspect to defective.. you can read the full description how to connect probes to the mosfet pins on that thread. it is a good investment if we can get a reliable in circuit mosfet tester?
"There is no shortcut to be successful. No pain, no gain."

VGA MOSfet permanently shorted and loss of MOSfet pad
                          by Nooy
Hello everyone, I recently found this badcaps site and super Learn Electronics Repair youtube channel. And I wanted to learn how to troubleshoot power supplies and VGA cards and how to practice soldering, since I already have a properly defective piece of them. I am currently trying to solve two problems:

I have a Gigabyte GV-RX460WF2OC-4GD type card. I managed to find the faulty MOSfet (AON6414A) on it, which I replaced. The card starts up, but after about half a minute, the MOSfet in the same position will be shorted again. Is it possible that the PWM controller driving the MOSfet...

Here is a good USB C tester that actually works first time you connect it to a device

Here is where you can find one

                          https://www.ebay.com/itm/11450939852...53.m2749.l2649

I am not getting paid for this recommendation nor was it a free item from the seller

I have bought several USB A/C type testers are not worth a crap for USB C you have to connect it several times to a USB C device before it recognizes the device to me this is worthless

The only downside of this tester is that it does not tell you what protocol you are accessing but this to me is not a very big deal because I would...

Asus X712EA 3 volts after the first mosfet
                          by AppleLover123
                          Hey guys,

i have a asus motherboard here and as the title says after the first mosfet (in the picture) there is nothing more than 3.15v.
I injected 19v and max. 1 amp at the charging port and there is not voltage drop or smth. It's just taking 19v and 1 milliamp.
Then i tried to inject 19v and max 1amp after the current sensor and there it first takes 19v and 4 milliamps and after 2 seconds it is taking nothing (no current).
I measured on the coils on board everything seems fine. Also the main power rail is not shorted (infinite resistance).
                          Now i thought something...

ASUS ROG Zephyrus GPU Mosfet repeat failure
                          by MicroSMD Lab
The board number is GU502DU. I repaired this a couple weeks ago and it came back with the same issue, same mosfet failed (PQH9201). I'm hoping that the GPU was spared this time.
I used the same replacement part (purchased from Mouser) and I'm certain the soldering was done properly since it took just as much effort to remove as before. What could cause this same mosfet to fail? I'm thinking if it was unsuitable then the others would fail too. I looked for similar failures on YTube and the mosfet was replaced with AOE6930 in one instance and AOE6932 in the other but it's possible that the...

                          Asus GA502D keeps blowing mosfet
                          by Scotchmist
I have an Asus GA502D, it had a blown mosfet which I replaced and the laptop booted into windows, a few mins later it shut off, the same mosfet was blown. I thought maybe just a bad mosfet but same thing happened again, a few mins in windows and shuts off.

I have removed the mosfet and can run the laptop no problem

                          The MOSFET is FDPC5018SG

Can anyone point me in the direction of what could be the cause of this, could it be the controller rt3663bc?

                          Thanks
