    Drilling DVI port holes

    Is there any easy way of doing this?

    I have an X223HQ, wonderful monitor but held back by the naff VGA port. Sick of auto-adjusting the thing.

    I also have a pair of Iiyama E1706S monitors which are missing stands, hanging around doing nothing. So I dismantled one for the fun of it.

    The controller port board appears to be the DVI version of the board in the X223HQ. So I was thinking I could maybe turn it into an X213H? Just need to drill a hole somehow.

    All I really have is a drill with a milling bit from the JML screw extractor set.

      Okay so I've connected the controller without drilling the whole just as a test. Got the problem I thought I may, it sees it as an E1706S with 1280x1024 resolution. The display is bloody good but is, of course, tiled. Is there any way of reprogramming it?

          Only if you can read the eeprom chips (if there are any), understand what each byte in it means and modify that, then maybe.

              Hmm. Only other thing I can think of is swapping the EEPROM chips. But then the main controller chip is completely different on the other board. :/

              I tried forcing 1920x1080 on it but all it does is flash "out of range".

                  The display processor in that 17" monitor only supports 1280x1024 max. No way around it i'm afraid.

                      Odd, the info sheet for it seemed to suggest it could do 1080p 60hz. Ah well I've given up anyway lol.

                      Shame really cause it looked pretty amazing on DVI.

                          Bump to this. Is there any chance it's possible?

                          The exact same board that could only output 1280x1024 is being used in monitors up to 23". So surely it's being limited by the EDID chips?

                          Reason I ask is I have a W1907V that I'd like to upgrade to DVI. The board it has is a PTB-1769, which there is a DVI version of, but costs £30 :/

                          Is there no way at all of transplanting the EEPROM chips (24C02WP on both boards)?

                                  I tried to look at the schematic diagram USBC_VBUS20, which is the port path from JusBC 1 to U4701 then goes to the system2 charging IC, why is there no system2 path leading to the charging IC on the TYPEC_VBUS20 port which is JDOCK1, thank you for your help.

                                  I wonder if drilling a few holes in the laptop case, on the bottom below the fan will actually help and decrease the CPU/GPU temps. I have one spare not so new laptop with first gen core i5, but the main issue is that while the cooling systen is clean, it runs rather hot - youtube tends to bring the laptop to about 60-64 degrees, even if power plan with 60% power limit restriction is used and the cpu itself does not go above 1.2-1.4GHz. It has integrated graphics, this is true, but the temps seem a little bit high... Even the SSD runs above 55-60 degrees, while it isnt actually intensively used......

                                  I sent my ProArt Studiobook 16 OLED (H7600, 12th Gen Intel) to the local repair guys to have a very simple DC in port replaced. I sourced the part myself on accessoires-asus (french company) after struggling to find the right part in the UK. It looked completely the same to the installed part from what I can tell.                                   Hi everyone,

                                  I'm working on a MacBook Air 2020 (A2337, board 820-02016) and running into a strange USB-C issue. I've gone through quite a bit of testing and part replacement, but I'm stuck — hoping someone here can shed some light.

                                  🛠 Original Issue
                                  The machine initially wouldn't negotiate 20V over USB-C — stuck at 5V.
                                  Diagnosis showed PP1V5_UPC0_LDO_CORE shorted to ground.

                                  I replaced U3100 (UF400) using a donor board (A2179), and the machine powers on fine now.

                                  ⚠️ New Problem: One USB-C Port Only Works in One Orientation...
