    Miracle self-healing?

A lot of times when something suddenly quits working and shows no defects that are obvious to a novice like me, I stash it away, but when I try the device again months later, it usually works fine. What's going on? The devices are things like cordless phones, CD drives, and radios.

I'd like to think that some intermittent connection got jiggled just right by accident, but before I stashed away the product I had resoldered joints, tapped on circuit boards, changed some capacitors, and applied heat and freeze spray. Also I tried doing most of those things again when I took the product out of storage, to see if I could make it fail again, but there was no change. Only one product went bad again, a Philips/Acer CD drive, after a few months, but it worked again after being stored for about a year.

Your garage is on an ancient indian holy site resulting in miraculous repairs. Your house on the other hand is cursed. Then again I've had the same luck with stuff in storage. Like a pioneer amp. Blew 3 under warranty and they refused repairs on the third so I threw it in storage for a couple years and now it works like new. So I agree there's something to the idea of giving electronics a rest and them comming back to life

Alienware x15 R2 no memory detected (hell repair job, 6 months later)
          by jagiro84
          Hi guys,
its been around 5-6months since i left this board on side to rest my brain cells and now came back to try and repair it again.

The laptop in question has issue where it gives error code on power on which is 2red and 3 blue

In short, by Dell specs this means "Memory not detected: "

Now one important thing the laptop would turn on fine when i leave it in the refrigerator for 5-10min and i could work\play games with it for days and months as long as i dont turn it off
but after a while this trick stopped working as wel

Screen dimmer in recent months, weird symptom: EPG screen goes bright! LG 19LD350
          by Hairspring
In recent months the screen has been getting more and more dim. If that was all, I'd suppose the problem would be the backlight (LED? LCD?). But I've noticed this really weird symptom: switching to the EPG screen restores normal brightness! And then, even weirder, when I go back to the programme, for a moment the programme is at normal brightness and over the next 1-2 seconds it gradually dims down again.

Last time I looked in a TV it had EHT flyback, so I'm no expert. I do sometimes repair computer monitors and power supplies, most often when there's bad caps.

          Anyhow,...

UPS ruins batteries every three months
          by davidebaldini
          Problem description:

My UPS requires new batteries every ~3 months; in this time frame, an average of about 5 to 10 power flickers or short power interruptions (< 2 minutes) occur. After an average of 3 months, a new pair of batteries begins to fail to keep the UPS up during any flicker or power interruption. The load it powers is a single computer/workstation running 24/7 with a continuous consumption between 200W to 300W.

          UPS model:
          The Atlantis 1001 is a non-inexpensive (~120€ back then) home/office offline UPS, rated 1000VA, 600W, designed for two 7Ah...

Hitachi 55" TV dead after 18 months (Vestel 17MB100)
          by Ruptor
I couldn't find any other thread that matches my TV problem but have been told it is a common fault. The fault is a flashing LED as if it is in upgrade mode that happens after a few seconds and stays forever. I can't remember all the tricks that have been tried like holding the select button when powering on but nothing worked. The shop sent me a flash drive to plug in a USB port but that did nothing either and they said it was dead which is disgusting for a piece of solid state electronics. I took the back off eventually after removing 34 screws to check for blown caps but everything looks new...

          UN55FH6200 Panel Replacement - A Christmas Miracle
          by neilc6
I had picked up a UN55FH6200 which the owner said was rebooting randomly and I assumed it was an issue with the WIDT20R wifi module. This module has known problems in the E model years. When I looked at it, it had been previously repaired and the main board was replaced with one from a UN40EH series and the wifi module on that one uses a different connector.
It was already disconnected because of the incompatibility. The main was only secured with 2 screws so I improved the grounding using all the screw holes. Though improved, it still suffered from random reboots. Test was to leave the...
