One of the crocodile clips on mine is a little warped.
If it starts measuring then slips off, it seems to get confused and keeps trying to measure.
I just turn it off and on again, works fine for me.

I was thinking about the possibility of hooking it up to a 12v PSU and removing the battery.

I have the old Dick Smith / Bob Parker type ESR meter with banana plugs so I can change leads without any trouble.
Not being able to switch between a pointed probe and clip of some kind would drive me nuts.

You might consider snipping off those clips and installing some in-line banana plug jacks.

With the Peak meter, you need clips.

The meter does not continuously run & monitor what's touching the probes, it starts, tests and gives a result - you have to keep pressing the on button to get it to test.

        I don't have 3 hands, so probes won't work

Don't do much checking on solder pads that way.

I usually use some of these.
They make better contact than most gator clips.

Recapping Sony ICF-SW55 - verifying cap values
              by proxneo
              Dear reader

I am performing a repair on a Sony ICF-SW55, which includes recapping (some) of the SMD capacitors on the mainboard. I am looking for verification of their values. At the moment, I'm 95% sure I've got the right values, but it is hard to find some official, credible or multiple independant sources on this.

At the moment, I have selected replacements based on the following list of values:

              3 x 470uF 10VDC
              3 x 4.7uF 35VDC
              4 x 47uF 50VDC
              8 x 22uF 6.3 VDC
              1 x 220uF 6.3VDC
              5 x 100uF 6.3VDC

              Which...

Is it possible to test small ceramic disc capacitor with analogue meter?
              by chth96
I read EBOOK of Testing Electronic Component and found that

"In order to test the small blue resin coated ceramic disk capacitor which has 104 50v specification,it is possible to test this small ceramic capacitor by making use of analogue meter.
Set to times 10Kohm that has 12v output from the probe to check disorder of ceramic capacitor.
It is not uncommon that testing result of digital capacitance meter is okay,But It show shorted reading when you check it with analogue meter."

Is it really possible to test small ceramic disc capacitor with analogue...

UT210E clamp meter amps measurements wrong
              by marce002
              Hello all

I have an UT210E clamp meter that went wrong doing amps measurements in continuity DC, it shows an offset of around 4/5A when first set, (lever at DC 10A) at 2A DC shows fixed 0L always......,,,,,, and also does not allow me to (zero button) , and as i said it is even worse in the 2A !! setting which do nothing and shows "0L"... when you can measure DV in 20A after achiving a ZERO with many RESET ZERO times , you can measure with a lot of offset..... eg 1A current is measured at around 650 mamps, . Similarly, a 4A current is shown at around 3A. |O

Modification of a Fluke multi meter that uses three AA batteries to use a 14500 lithium ion battery
              by sam_sam_sam
I have had with regular AA batteries that leak this meter is expensive new I already replaced the battery battery clips once and the same thing happened again and I am tried of so it is getting modified to accommodate lithium ion batteries that are the same size excluding the positive terminal and removing the battery clips I will have enough room for the BMS protection board

I going to put 3 lithium ion battery in parallel with the BMS protection board and a way to charge the battery externally and heat shrink the battery pack and use a JST connector so I easily remove the battery...

Dell XPS One 2720 AIO Liteon PS-3261-9DA not starting up immediately
              by cheeky2
I suspect the issue is with the power supply Liteon PS-3261-9DA as apparently they are notorious for issues with them. Has anyone else had similar issues where the PC tries to boot up a few times before finally booting up. Now I have opened up the PSU which shows no signs of any capacitors failing. I did remove one capacitor that looked to have an issue however with my peak meter it showed it was within the limits with good very low esr values which was somewhat disappointing!
I am going to put a Meter leads across the outputs to see how stable they are when it occurs to see what they are...
