• Re: Cisco pix 506 fw psu

Measured it outta circuit - no problems at all, a slightly increased impendance only.

Replacing the mentioned capacitor did no help. I've acquired all the other capacitors as well, I'll try to replace them all.

Sure it's the heat that usually kills the caps, but I thought that it would be something else since you said you've seen a few go . Nevermind and thanks anyways stj, because Behemot here stated an interesting fact : " Create compounds which are solind, not liquid " . Behemot can you elaborate, please?

Meanwhile I'm gonna dig through my junk board to see if I can find that cap, motherboards have similar ones near the audio chip usually.

Why would they fail near heatsinks? Anyways, still haven't found a replacement one, I'm gonna hit the electro shop we have in the town tomorrow.

''YXF'' , those should be low impendance @ 105C

25V 47uf Rubycon, which should be one of the best. Looking for a spare one now...

Thanks for the advice !!

The diodes show 470 and 778 values on the diode test. The regulators (the ones attached to the heatsink) show values between 400 - 650 when you measure the leads, but one of them shows 600 on one leg and beeps (short) on the other leg - which to me (since I'm an total amateur) is not a good sound. But I believe that removing the parts and measuring them outside the circuit is more reliable, thus will remove them and measure.

Should I continue replacing the C4 cap if this has been discovered?

Hey there !

Been a while since I visited this lovely site ! Hope everything's alright, saw some red notification up there, hope the admin & badcaps store ain't in no trouble !!!

So I wanted to start my cisco trainings and stuff, hooked up my FW mentioned above to the PSU, worked one day. Did the same thing the next day, nothing. Dead. Tried the spare one - worked.

Disassembled, investigated. The PSU looks OK, no burnt spots or parts. Providing the picture. There is one indication of a failure, fortunately. The place with caps and the regulator...

• Re: What else have you guys been fixing !

Wiring to the antenna, headphones, simple home stuff. Tried to recap a mobo of which I have no details, 4 caps (2 3300uf and 2 1000uf) were bulging, though showed not problems when in the mobo, after removal I got 3,4ohms and a broken circuit message from my PEAK ESR meter. Replaced with 2 brand new Rubycons and 2 spare noname whatevers - upon my turn on the Serial Port driver (i presume) and a VRM regulator exploded . As I mentioned - no info on the mobo, was just given to me, and after inspection I found the mobo being bent much on...

• AAA - Agilent Advisor Advice

Anyone has any experience with the Agilent Advisor series, particularly a J2300E model with J3444 Fast Ethernet undercradle? I was trying to plug it in to our company intranet, got some readings for the first and second time, but now I cannot read the network at all, pops up a few errors of failed initializations of various types, regarding to network parameters of course.

BTW, it never worked at home.

• Re: New Build - Questions Asked

Thanks for the comment man, i'll try to find more about that.

As for the Physx card, we're talking a standalone physics accelerator made by Ageia, the inventor. Nvidia bought Ageia and dismantled this company after the acquisition, only to get the technology under control and started to provide services to game developers like getting them a proper physics engine for a price, or based upon other forms of agreement; and released only a few games that still supported the Ageia accelerator - this is what my colleague states for he's more...

• New Build - Questions Asked

Hi everyone!

It's just been another amount of time since I contributed something little with, thus I suppose the right opportunity would be this one.

I finally decided to build my last machine that I actually would have a ''crush'' on, to have something little special about it. Of course it has to be a certain architecture I adore or really appreciate & has got to be powerful enough to sustain the utmost stress and heavy load from games that pose as a beacon of technological advancement (Crysis etc.).

This would be the Core2 platform definitely...

• Re: File Corruption Problem (RAID5)

Gotta say I'm partially to blame for, too. I assured him nothing should happen, as you said by yourself, but not even me nor him did now that the rebuild was not natively possible by the controller, we did not examined it before doing any serious stuff (I've seen that setup only once by a glimpse). So I feel responsible too - and as an idiot too (not taking any offense).

Still I wish there was some way to restore the data. Every file (image file, avi, mp3) is somehow corrupted and I'm asking why it has become like that. Well I guess...

• File Corruption Problem (RAID5)

Hello all after a long time!

I'd like to be brief and simple, so let's put it in:

I've recently built a copy of my server for my friend - dual PIIIs, 2GB RAM and 4x 1TB drives in RAID5 setup. Ain't got any dedicated software for the controller, which is PROMISE SATA 300 for PCI(64)-X, for data rebuild or something, nor the controller itself with its firmware does not provide such an option, thus I never cared for it and so did my friend...

But he somehow ''damaged'' his data by the following steps: He was copying stuff when he decided to test the RAID...

• Re: Home network visibility problem

I do understand you Brethin (and seemingly others too) I may have passed the line here a bit with the setup, but I really can't say it was a waste of time by plugging extra 2 cables . There must be a new level of laziness over here I do not know, please enlighten me ...

Okay, back to the topic. Yes, I knew it had to do with the ICS bridging, did it a long time ago at one LAN party I went to trying to provide Internet connection for guys in which I succeeded, but as I said, logn time ago.

Diggie - No, the ''high performance''...

• Home network visibility problem

I've set up a my server recently LINK and managed to hook it up to my home network, although I wanted to be more secure and did the following (I'm gonna ask one thing afterwards):

One room, 2 high performance PCs (Win7 Ultimate x64 & XP SP2 x86) , 1 entry level server (XP SP2 x86), 1 router with Internet access. All computers have 2 NICs, where the PCs have the first LAN port connected with the router for the Internet and the second LAN connection goes to the server, which has 2 NIC as mentioned above,...

started a topic RAID 5 questions

RAID 5 questions

Finally resurrected my home server and got RAID 5 on it working, got few questions about the array itself, but first the config:

Mobo: Supermicro P3TDLR+
CPUs: 2x Pentium III Tualatin 1,4GHz
RAM: 2x1GB PC133 ECC / buffered

Storage (IDE) : 1x HP DVD-ROM (PATA)
1x IBM DeathStar 80GB (PATA)

(SATA): PCI-X FastTrak x4300 SATAII Hot Swappable
4x Seagate 1TB in RAID5 (SATAII)

And the last one :

• MSI Cyclone R6850OC - NO VIDEO!

Hi guys!

Now I'm finally in need of advice from people understanding the newest technologies. I've just bought this particular video card and am experiencing ( so far, next update in 2 hours ) these problems:

1st DVI works
2nd DVI does not under any way, meaning both/single DVI usage
DisplayPort doesnt work with my DP to VGA cable on a HD TV (will try no reduction)
HDMI - no means how to test it.

I just have no time right now to browse wikipedia about basic usage rules of DVI and so, so that I'm asking you if you have any experiences...
