They are from pcb.laen.org and that is standard color....
Yes, it is still needed but the offset is only about 15 mV = about equal to test lead resistance. I think I but a trimmer for zeroing that out in next version.Re: Low-ESR analog meter

Re: Low-ESR analog meter
Finally got the PCB on friday. How many mistakes there can be in one small board...
But after some modifications it seems to be working quite ok. Some small modifications are still needed (add zero trim, change gain adjust range and I must have been half-sleeping when I put that power supply part in there)
Test leads are connected at pads marked G+/-. This version uses two-lead measurement and runs from 9V battery
Tested it with some caps and it gave following results. Results are at least in the right ballpark.

Re: Analog ESR meter design
You are using 4 wires for measurement? Are the two pairs properly shielded so no inductive coupling between current source and measurement pairs? You really need scope to debug that circuit......

Low-ESR analog meter
Hello
New year and new ESR-meter. This works much better than last year version. It is not ready yet as all power supply, protection, pcb etc. is missing. Also it is quite slow.

Tried to draw what I have on breadboard into schematic, there may be errors in ithttps://Hello<br /> <br /> New yea.../mcpESR/...Last edited by frako; 01-25-2012, 11:02 AM.

Re: ESR meter circuit
Finally got enought time to draw a PCB for the meter and to put it into a box.
I used a TSH22 opamp but it needs a pulldown resistor to make IC1B go under 150 mV...

Re: Found another DIY ESR Meter...Anyone seen this one?
.hex is the file you flash to mcu. .jal is the source code written in JAL language (a bit unusual choice to use that instead of C or asm). http://www.voti.nl/jal/index.htmlRe: Found another DIY ESR Meter...An...dex.html...

Re: ESR meter circuit
Oops, sorry. It is a drawing mistake, that is because I first build the meter and then afterwards drew the schematic...
IC1B just buffers the potentiometer for zero adjust.
No, no, you remove it when it has too much scratches on it and then... TADAA you have like a new display again
But indeed it starts to be that time because of those bubles.
On mobile phones those films are much better. They last two or three years before the films needs to be removed and never any bubling....

Re: ESR meter circuit
I added analog panel meter to it, so it don't need multimeter anymore.
As you can see from the photo, it still needs some little finishing like a pcb or a case......

Re: Any experiences with this ESR meter circuit?
That looks like they are just piece of double-sided pcb soldered in there
There is only some strange .spl7 files on that other link?
how can one open those?...Last edited by frako; 01-28-2011, 10:56 AM.

Re: Any experiences with this ESR meter circuit?
If you mean that link from the other thread:
http://people.overclockers.ru/TerAbit/record7
It looks like a good circuit. That page says it can measure down to few milliohms, what is practically the lower measurement limit without taking into account capacitors capacitance and inductance.
Important things about this circuit are:
a) Four wire measurement
b) Synchronized rectification
Many ESR meters drive the capacitor with square wave, but there comes...Last edited by frako; 01-27-2011, 10:56 AM.

Re: Any experiences with this ESR meter circuit?
After looking more carefully at the schematic it looks like this meter is more suitable for measuring general purpose capacitors than low ESR ones, alltought I may have missed something important.
Unfortunately the page don't tell anything about the meter's usable measuring range (tought calibrating with 10 ohm resistor hints to gp caps).

Re: Any experiences with this ESR meter circuit?
It is most likely power connection to the op-amp (IC3), probably connects to the 12V rail
There is no microprocessor in that schematic, the ICL7107 is a voltage meter IC. That file is the schematic/pcb-layout file from TARGET 3000 PCB-layout program apparently

ESR meter circuit
Hello
Here is an 555 ESR meter circuit I just got working:
http://koti.mbnet.fi/hsahko/elek/kv/esr/
Actually it is not a meter in itself but a converter for multimeter.
It can measure ESR from 1 ohm to about 0.01 ohms or so.https://Hello<br /> <br /> Here is...01 ohms or so.Hello
