Basic question about resistor

I want to test a 1004 smd resistor with a multimeter if I right this is a 1M ohm resistor. My multimeter has a 2M ohm setting. now my question is my multimeter tests it at 0.045 on the 2M ohm setting is it a bad resistor.
Sorry just getting myself confused

In circuit can give a low measurement depending on other components connected to it.

ok toke it out of circuit it now reads .998 so must be ok thanks for your time :-)

1M, it should read 1 on the 2M scale of your meter.

the 4 digit code says 100 x 10^4 = 1,000,000

So it shows 998KOhms(0.998M Ohms), for 5% resistor, then it is OK.

Our posts crossed. 0.998M is good.
