maybe the plastic moved on the metal bracket?
or the magnet got loose inside it.

Re: [FAQ] Atten 858d problem S-E (or 5-E) or stuck in 498'C.
I realise this thread is somewhat old, however I have had problems with an Atten 858D+ which stopped entering sleep mode, and found a solution which might help someone, someday?
The problem started after the unit was lent to a friend and the only way to get the heater to chill out was by holding the heater gun above where it was sitting naturally.
After failing to locate the reed switch, the situation was resolved by putting a thick band of tape onto the heater handle so the the gun sat about 20mm, or 3/4's of an inch, higher up in the saddle.
It's not pretty, but it was done about two years ago and it is still working fine.Attached Filesif you find these attachements useful please consider making a small donation to the site

Re: [FAQ] Atten 858d problem S-E (or 5-E) or stuck in 498'C.
today got an 858d that was not heating and after a while give error H-E or H-3 (cant remember if it was down facing). after resolder old solder, check resistor, thermocouple, try another termocouple i ordered the tric bat12 800b. after that i measured all wires (8 wire) to just be sure it was not a wire problem and guess what ? black wire not reading continuity.... now i have ordered 8x0,5mm cable 10meters for 17€
need also those arduino cable terminal to put them back properly
edit: have to check cable thikness .. maybe 0,5mm are too smallLast edited by dellxps15; 10-06-2022, 09:54 AM.Leave a comment:

Re: [FAQ] Atten 858d problem S-E (or 5-E) or stuck in 498'C.
If I were doing this repair I would resolder all of the joints on this boardIts only a week i have been working with my new Atten 858D+ heating station and i have experienced a problem. The station showed S-E in the digital display, the blower fan was ok but it was NOT heating. Searching the web showed that the heating element was gone, this was an error code, but it was not true. Measuring it showed 70 Ohms. Also the mosfet which drives it was not shorted. The station was also stuck in 498'C sometimes, again no heat.
Browsing again and saw some unresolved topics, there is one at a well-known polish forum. Mine is in warranty too but i was not thinking about shipping it ti China.
After close inspection at the small circuit in the gun, i could distinguish a cold joint at the soldering of the thermocouple sensor. Bingo!
Now the heating is working great again!
Thanks for reading.

check the cable for breaks if it's old - i'v seen that lots of times on soldering irons.Leave a comment:

Hello,
have too one atten 852+ which has worked ok for several years
now has decided to not going sleep anymore
it heated properly and cooling down when put on rest
but display jumps from temp to temp and not going a sleep
maybe someone faced same?

Re: [FAQ] Atten 858d problem S-E (or 5-E) or stuck in 498'C.
These machines are really hit or miss. I'm looking at getting a T12 soldering iron station, it seems that kgser is the original hakko copier and seem to have the best ones. Eruntop looks like they make their hot air stations, but I'm not vouching for either. I got my hot air station off ebay some time ago, it has been ok, with some notable issues (fuse on neutral)...Leave a comment:

Re: [FAQ] Atten 858d problem S-E (or 5-E) or stuck in 498'C.
Thermocouple (+) is the skinny red wire, it is unique because a magnet will stick to it- it's iron. You will also get continuity to the thermocouple tip at the end.Leave a comment:

??
you have 4 wires,
2 are the element that is exposed.
the other 2 are the sensor.Leave a comment:

The wires are wrapped inside the element, is difficult to do continuity test, but I can figure out which one goes where if I can find the Positive and negative.on the element, you can use a multimeter to find the 2 wires by continuity test to the coil.
the other 2 wires will be the sensor.
then check that by setting your meter to read mV and heat the sensor with a hair dryer or something and you should see the voltage rise.
that will also tell you which wire is + and which is -Leave a comment:

I have bought a heating element replacement for my toasted old one and I have issue identifying the wiring. The wires on the replacement are totally different and even same colored. I can't tell also which one got to Positive and which on Negative. Can you help? I attach the pictures.
You see the replacement has 2 x black , 1 x red, 1 x Green, 1 x Blue wires.
The one black is thick, so I guess this is the main voltage, which is the grey one in my original wiring. I hope you can help me where to solder each.Attached Filesif you find these attachements useful please consider making a small donation to the site

Re: [FAQ] Atten 858d problem S-E (or 5-E) or stuck in 498'C.
...thanks to the OP for the tip... I just got an 858D that stopped working after 15 seconds when it heated up. It was also a cold solder joint. In my case it was the other style 858D with the two buttons on each side of the pot and the eight pin connector for plugging in the hand set. The lead free solder on the 8-pin connector was terrible. I resoldered and everything is fine.
This is the style I'm talking about

I do not like this as a setup however wrote this software what were they thinking about when did this
Unless this is done keep you from changing the temperature by accident
Which might not be a bad idea this is ? markLast edited by sam_sam_sam; 08-18-2019, 07:21 AM.Leave a comment:

Yes correct, I hold 2 buttons and I have like 3 seconds to set a default temperatureLeave a comment:

Re: [FAQ] Atten 858d problem S-E (or 5-E) or stuck in 498'C.
so what - you hold both buttons and it uses the set temp as default?
i'm pretty sure mine holds the last setting until you change it again.Leave a comment:

Re: [FAQ] Atten 858d problem S-E (or 5-E) or stuck in 498'C.
Only setting I found is pressing the 2 buttons at the same time and I can set the default power-on temp. And it gets remembered by the EEPROM.That's really weird. I wonder if it could be something enabled or disabled in settings that are stored in the EEPROM. Does it remember the temperature setting when you power it off? I'd poke around the menus if it has any.
Otherwise, the only fix would be an MCU adapter board that people have made for these.
As for the replacement firmware ... I would consider it but would rather start with a fully functional unit beforeLeave a comment:

the replacement formware thing is interesting, but i have not tried it - my unit works fine as it is.
although i did think about changing it so i could use an oled display!

by ProttHello fellow Badcappers,
I have a Surface Pro 7 that's turning on (CPU heating up, USB powered, LCD powered) stuck on a boot logo. BIOS should be correct (ME cleaned, worked in a different S7Pro), no shorts. Only thing that seems a bit weird is the pattern in which the SSD chip is heating up. Is that normal behaviour? Rest of the SSD is 10 degrees colder.
I have replacement SSDs, but it's quite a hassle to reball and install them, so I would like to avoid doing this step if possible.
Thank you!1 Photo -
by StuntHi guys i've got an Hp laptop Zbook 17 g5 Stuck on Hp protected by hp sure start screen.
I have tried almost every bios available on various platforms about this laptop but the problem is still the same.
I even successfully build my own bios using the one from the Hp website but the problem the laptop still getting stuck there.
Even if i try to press Esc key nothing happens. I tried f10 it doesn't go to bios still stuck there i just saw entering setup menu on the bottom left corner of the
screen that's it and stuck there. I left it until the following day and i still...09-02-2025, 01:51 PM -
Hey....
Board as written in description was stuck at VGA LED. common Problem wit these type of bords.... tried all the "standard stuff" like resettin... reseatin.... found out the LED Controller MCU1 = IT8295FN-56A geting burning hot under the last PCI Slot.. now i desoldered it cause there were only 18 ohms at the caps arround.... another aorus x470 in working condition with similar part and nearly same layout had arround 280 ohms...
my question is: why doesnt the board start know without this chip.... worked myself through the boardview but i can´t understand... -
by ekozeko333Hi all,
I’m trying to recover a Lenovo Yoga Slim 7-14ARE05 with board DA0LS3MBAF0 Rev:F. I’ve run into an unusual issue where USB-C PD is stuck at 4.7–5V and the system won’t boot (keyboard lights flash briefly, then nothing).
🔥 The Problem Started After Suspected ESD/PD Fault
I experienced a power issue or ESD event through a USB-C charger
After that, the NX20P5090 power switch was visibly burned and was replaced
Now the PD controller always negotiates 5V @ 2A, even with known-good chargers

by EasyGoing1I've got this circuit that I've been playing with on a breadboard. I'm not happy with it mainly because the MOSFET gets too hot and generally controlling the temp of the heating element with the Arduino has proven to be a little more cumbersome than I would like.
What I would like to know, is what is the best way to set up a circuit like this? The heating element is just a PCB and its going to be mounted under a 3D-printed enclosure that a lizard will use to warm his belly.
This is the general setup that I have now.
This is what the... - Loading...
