I ordered a cheap logic analyser to attach it to the GPIOS to see whats up. it will take a week or two to report back what happens on these pinouts.

This is my first laptop repair and I am learning along the way I might benefit from watching some advanced videos if someone could share something more in depth and tehnical about PD negotiation and signal analysing ?

Thank everybody for the feedback and If we fix this I will surely create a indepth tutorial on what happened how to avoid and how to fix it

I know there are two of the NX20P5090.

Ive tested the whole board for short circuits including the PQ13 and PQ17. no shorts there. all is ok.

Ive did a whole analysis of the PD negotiation uncluding D+ and D- with and without battery on both ports. These are the Pictures attached.

Summary of PD Negotiation Behavior (based on 4 pictures checked):

Port 1 (no battery):
VBUS cycles between ~2.3V and 20V (short cycles), current ranges 0.007A – 0.045A.
Port 1 (with battery):
Longer cycles, VBUS 0V – 20V,

Thanks I was losing my mind last night at 2 AM..
Then its most likely the PDI Flash that needs to be truly configured.

somebody with much more experience can tell.

What I can tell is that I`ve tried To unsoled the TPS and try. I get 5v only.

With TPS soldered it negotiates to 20V-0V in cycle.

No shorts found anywhere.

With the NX20P5090UKAZ unsoldered I get 20V constant but it doesnt turn on to pass VBUS --> VINT

Initially the NX20P5090UKAZ was shorted and burned.
THE SPI Flash was corrupted not shorted...

Little update...

in desparation started to measure every single cap.

I found a short on this line. I cant trace it to see where it goes, currently I dont have a adjustable power supply or a thermal camera to trace it.
Does somebody have a idea?

I tried the dump, it seems to cycle 20V -0V .. same....

Bought a brand new original TPS65988DJ from Mouser.

Replaced it.

Still the same problem.

I wish somebody would drop the firmware config from his TPS flash ... Idk what else could be the problem

made sure the replace was successfull. cleaned pads. applied new solder. etc etc..

For anyone following, tried a new full battery works.
This leaves only the TPS65988DJ to be half defect, no shorts.
Ordered a TPS65988DJ to replace. will follow up

right now I am 99.99% sure its the SPI FLASH firmware problem for the PD TPS control because I played with it and managed to get 20V..
uploaded the Texas Instrument program and the project file so far.
good luck if you try to inspec it....

I Think I need a working firmware. there are no shorts anymore.
I will craft one today with the tool and looking at schematic closely the I2C talks at 0x23 address. 011b using a 0.9 divider.

hopefully this will work. will report back today !...

A little update.

I played a little with the tool. used the recommended config (didnt config it for my specific BOARD) I tried to see if anything changes and.. .I GOT 20V on plug in... but it is stuck in looping ( cutting the power completly off from the charger and in loop) config is most likely not OK.

From this I am confident the only problem I am facing right now is the FIRMWARE for the TPS!!...

I am at the edge of tossing the motherboard out...

I tried the PD firmware you uplaoded on a new spi flash it flashed OK. soldered it back to the MOBO and soldered the BIOS flash.

When I press the power button it goes from 5.1V to 4.8V 3.0A 14.6W. Fluctuates at 2.7-3A.

when I hold the power button it goes again to 0.5A and 5.1V.
with battery (empty) the power charger flashes 3 times. no negotiation.

Measured voltages on the SPI FLASH ok.
Tried the factory bios it doesnt even respond to the power button.

do I flash it from 0x00000000 the 512kb? thats ok?...

A little update.

the 25Q80DV is DEAD.
Ive ordered a new one, comes this saturday.
Will try to solder a empty 25Q80DV to the board and let the bios flash it on BOOT TIME. I might get lucky. IF not, then I will need someone to provide me with a working dump from the 25Q80DV.
Wish me luck, will report back.
