    Frequency measurement

I have a old JBL car amplifier that has electronic HP/LP crossover with pots.
Now, the pots don't have any increment markings, just 32-320Hz variable.
I would like to set these at around 100Hz in HP, as close as possible, so the front component speakers don't play that frequency.

I don't have a Oscilloscope but apparently my Uni-T multimeter can read frequencies. So, I sent 100Hz test tones via phone app, measured the output on the amp and it reads 100Hz. I sent 1Khz and 10Khz and it measured correctly, all in Flat position. Great I thought.

I then switched on HP, sent 100Hz, measured and it still reads 100Hz!
I tried a few different below 320Hz and all measured correctly.
Turning the Pot had no effect on the measured output.
If I listened to a bass heavy track, and adjusted the Pot, bass was indeed removed. So audibly it works, but not as measured.
Is the amp only attenuating and not really blocking.

So whats going on? Is my my meter faulty or not suitable for this type of testing?

Incidentally, If I sent various tones from 500Hz -15Khz in the LP setting, the meter cannot read them. Flicking the switch to flat and then it reads them.
    Odd.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Not suitable due to automatic gain.

the multimeter. you can only get a rough idea.
You could measure the voltage and see how much it drops, that's the only other thing you could do to get an idea of what's going on.

you can get phone app's that have a requency display/spectrum analyser.
just remember most phones are optimised for audio-range - not an issue here though.

Basic measurement premise is incorrect, you really a scope to see what is coming out.

You can just measure Vin and Vout. Use your multimeter on ACV and put in say 200mV and find the -3dB corner frequency where the output dips by 70.7%
Some DMM's are only good to around 1.5kHz before they roll off. Others are good to much higher.

Did you mean Vout dips TO 70.7 % of Vin?

                  Surface Pro 7 1866 won't turn on...

                  Hi guys,
Just have a surface tablet pro 7 (type 1866) with motherboard JALAMA_ICL_MB DV:2.0.
Can't power on the surface tablet, no reaction on the button whatever the charger (working) is plugged in or not.
After dissassembly I made a physical inspection without seeing any damaged component (nothing visible at least).

                  Made measurement:
With battery (low voltage 7.9V) the led D7013 is on (red)
Charging seems odd and decided to let it apart and working only with DC input.

With power supply 15VDC (white light on the charging cable).
                  D7013...

Dell Precision 5530 15" died to blown chip. Replaced chip and now only get momentary fans, lights, no screen or boot
                  by joesmoe91
                  Hello,

My Dell Precision 5530 turned off suddenly when I was running Matlab and wouldn't turn on, show any lights, fans, and/or any signs of activity at all. I opened the case, removed the battery and looked at the board with a thermal camera while the AC adapter was connected. I saw that PU1252 was >120C so figured the chip had died on me Got the part number off the attached schematic (see Mouser link below) and replaced the chip. After replacing the chip the board (connected to AC adapter) was able to briefly power on, spin the fans a little bit, and turn on the front led lights....

                  Hello everyone,

About me, my goal and the equipment I (don't) have:
I am brand new to this forum, and I am eager to learn about repairing laptops. I have an engineer background although I haven't done electronics for a while. I have watched several Youtube videos in the last two months, trying to understand how to diagnose a faulty motherboard. I have a USB-C Amp meter and a classic multi meter. No DC Power Supply to inject voltage, no soldering iron to replace components.

About my issue and my goal:
A friend of mine has a MacBook Air M1 A2337 that does not...

Ancel BA-101 automotive battery tester reads low on flooded batteries
                  by CapLeaker
I’ve got this Ancel BA-101 battery tester for a few years now and discovered an issue testing flooded car batteries. The damn thing reads always low compared to other battery testers. I mean low in the tune of 25 to 30%! AGM’s read comparable within margin of error. I wonder if all these have the same problem or mine is defective somehow?...

Bought myself a project. Waterdamage to the left wing. Front side got damage on top up to SSD area. Back - near CD3218 both CD3217. Had to replace a lot of caps and resistors to make it perfect. No shorts. Didnt lift any chips yet but microscope shows good balls from sides. Anyway. It powers up and boots fine.
