Hi guys, I'm kinda new in the board level repair stuff. I recently did a bios flash on an asus laptop and a clean install of windows 10 but I don't have a key for it. From what I understand, the windows key is now embedded in the bios. I still have a dump of the old bios. Is there a way to extract the key? Or if I'm way off please help enlighten me
Thanks

Re: Bios : embedded windows key question
I can try and pull it out of the BIOS dump. Ive not tested my method on 10 though.Things I've fixed: anything from semis to crappy Chinese $2 radios, and now an IoT Dildo....

Re: Bios : embedded windows key question
Simply take the old/original dump and then open it up in a good Hex Editor that supports wild card searches so then do something like this.Hi guys, I'm kinda new in the board level repair stuff. ?????-?????-?????-?????-????? that is the wild card search. The key should pop right out
Done this so many times.
What I do is I usually put the old/original key in the same place as the old one so that the original key is with the new flashed bios. Sometimes its not that easy you have to redo checksums but sometimes it just works.... Getting it out is simple.
I think neoEditor on windows had wildcard search but its a 30days free software i think....

Re: Bios : embedded windows key question
Thank you all for your replies. I downloaded ultra edit and found the key at line 00223ae0h for the asus x541u. Unfortunately the new windows install rejected the key. I read somewhere that it's not enough to simply have the key. You also also need a backup of the encrypted MSDM table. This case was for a different computer but I'm guessing it applies globally to Windows 8+. Anyhow I'm not motivated enough to figure how to combine the 2 firmwares I have to get the key working. This was a cheap computer I picked up on craigslist to get my hands dirty. I was able to desolder the bios chip, read it, program it and solder it back on and got it booting. I'm happy with the result. Cheers
Edit: I've attached the original bios dump for any of the curiousAttached FilesLast edited by vanrepair; 10-30-2018, 01:27 PM.Comment

by 0xxHi folks,
My son clicked “Update and Shutdown” on a Razer Blade 14 (2022, RZ09-0427), closed the lid, disconnected the charger, and put the laptop in his backpack. The next day, it wouldn’t boot: only the green LED blinked, no fans, no keyboard backlight, no display. The chassis does get warm, so the CPU/GPU seems to get power.
What I’ve tried so far: disconnecting the main battery, CMOS reset with power drain (30s), using a different power adapter, and connecting to the monitor - same result.
I assumed that Windows Update was interrupted due to closing... -
by iZakreHello everybody!
To put you in context I recently replaced the battery from my HP Pavilion 15 bc400ns with a used one, everything was going good. The same day, I decided to update the BIOS, everything went good. The thing occurred after I let the battery drain iddling on Windows 11 for the second time to calibrate it that the screen did not turn on again, the computer was on but the screen did not turn, like it would not wake from hibernation. I decided to restart the computer but got no video.
The thing is that I had installed TeamViewer and could log into the computer... -
by jbonavitaHi, my laptop wont boot at all
With original bios no POST, only LED lights
With alternative BIOS from model TP500LN (flashed via programmer) the notebook works again
Some issues
A- with bios from 500LN, it won't update from bios of model 500LA (from 500LN v203 to 500LA v300)
B- If updated from 500LN version 203 to 300, the battery stops being recognized
Things I tried
1- Update / clear ME: Took the non working bios, made a backup, and did this: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...theory/trouble...-
