    Windows Xp Home Update

I still use and I still like Windows Xp. Now here is a question for you. Since Gates Soft is going to discontinue the live update thing how can I capture the updates to a disk??? Do I capture them from my PC that is already updated or do I capture them in some way from the update site??? I need these updates because Xp is a sick puppy without them...Does any third party offer these updates on a disk already???

    Hmm?

I don't think support for Windows XP Service Pack 3 is ending until 8th April 2014. Service Pack 2 dies on 13th July 2010.

If you're not running Service Pack 3, why not?

There are still about 72 updates the PC will get even after the install of Sp3. I do run Sp3 and have it on disk.

Yes. If you have Service Pack 3 installed, you will receive those ~100 updates. If you have Service Pack 2, you get nothing until you upgrade to Service Pack 3.

My Xp CD has Sp2 built into it. I install sp3 right after the install of the windows OS with sp2. Next I turn off the automatic updates and install the rest of my progies. After I'm all done on my end I turn the automatic updates back on and go to the windows update page and let the OS do its thing.

            No problem then.

Why don't you do this and then make an image (clone) of it?
When you want to go back to how you were, you just restore that blank installation with all updates and programs.

You have a Western Digital drive don't you?

Perhaps Acronis will work for you: http://support.wdc.com/product/downl...19&wdc_lang=en
I've not tried this for backup/restore purposes on a single PC, I'll test it later on in the week for you. 10:30pm, no time for playing with Windows at this hour.

The old updates will be there for quite some time, there just won't be more after the dates seanc posted. After July 13th of this year SP2 wont get any NEW updates, but the old ones will still be available.

Windows update was still up for NT4 and 98 last time I checked, just nothing new.

There was a piece of software available that I used to use (when I did not broadband) that could do what you want. It would connect to the update website and download all the updates in a folder. I would have to dig it up and have a look for you.

If you want to integrate all those updates you will have to jot them down, download them individually, and then integrate them with nLite. I think if you check there's a torrent where someone did this already.

They had double superiority in tanks and aircraft, triple in artillery, and in air defense and anti-tank weapons they had absolute supremacy. And what? Once again they were beaten. Once again they scrammed [sic]. Once again they screamed for us to come save them. Sadat woke me up in the middle of the night twice over the phone, 'Save me!' He demanded to send Soviet troops, and immediately! No! We are not going to fight for them."

I use Acronis True Image for complete system cloning. It's a really reliable software and easy to use, even if you are a beginner.
