I have nothing against tape drives, but i have a removable 500 gig external drive that i back all my stuff up on. makes a nice backup just in case something fries so i don't loose everything. also for the backup part, I do a backup of my email, files, my moms email and files too. that takes up space too.

as for the music being $1 a song thing. I converted all my CD's to MP3's so it is not like buying the music for $1 a song is the only way to get MP3's on your computer.

and agreed on what they said. Just because you have a bigger drive does not mean that you are bragging, some people need or make good use of them. that's all we were saying.

update: it is now a garage-puter. added a wireless b card, hooked to moiter, etc. on garage. only issue is it has bad grounding. i got a little buzz in my finger off the bare metal on the case. should i be worried?

          also, switched it to a diamond savage4 (s3 savage4+16mb+agp 2x/4x)

in attempt to make it faster, i switched to xubuntu... helped a little...

do u still need that goldfinger thingy?
i've got an old Slot A Athlon 700, with a goldfinger module on it + a huuuuge heatsink.
CPU itself seems to be toast (didn't POST in a known good (customer *ahem*) board), but the rest is fine..

kept it for decoration... looks kinda impressive

idk what the shipping costs would be though.. prolly not really worth it :/

as for the linlin tualatin adapters.. they're SO god damn rare.. i still want one (or two.. for my recapped Dual S370 Gigabyte 6VXD7), but no luck so far...

most of them i watched on ebay went up to at least 30eur (about 40US$) for one of them..

im ok... with it being in an OEM case, i better not even try to OC it...

to bad you live so far away... otherwise, i'd send you the adapter. didn't work on any of my equipment... if i could afford to ship it, i'd send it you way...

My take was that the early AMD chips/chipsets were rather basic like an OEM BIOS. Just enough to get the job done and not many advanced features.

As far as North-South on Slot A.
I had no problems at all with VIA-VIA sets. [I did 5 or 6 builds for other people with that model board.]
That might be because I was using VIA-VIA on all the K6-2 stuff I was running before I tried an Athlon so I was simply used to them.
I remember reading about poor performance from AMD-VIA and AMD-AMD sets. [Like I said - on Slot A.]
May have been different by Socket A. By then I'd jumped ship to Intel again and Socket A was old by the time I had one to dink with.
                .
I had a compaq P166 with an AMD chipset. The only P166 with sdram slots I owned.
I've long given up on older PCs, waste of time and money. The oldest I own is a SKT A 2800+ barton (started life as a 1600XP, but upgraded it because it was cheap). My current main PCs are a SKT 939 4200+ and 3200+ and 4400+.
I ripped the guts out of the SKT A 2800+ to do a cheap upgrade to the 3200+ SKT 939, the cpu and ram was from where I upgraded my original s939 system to the 4400+.
Also I had two 1GB ram kits die, when I RMAed them, the manufacturers of both said no longer available and sent me 2GB ram kits back in exchange.
Really the oldest PC thats worthwhile any time and money are the dual core AMD SKT 939 and there abouts, as they are fast enough for almost anything even if they are 5 years old. Getting harder to find, but a 754 socket or a 940 socket is good value too.
I did have a dual P3 1GHz that I kept for novelty value, but it never posted after I recapped it.

I still have a bunch of S370 and slot 1 bx boards, and slotkets including a tualatin adapter, and sdram. nnot worth anything these days though, not even the trouble of getting them assembled

Trying to troubleshoot DDR4 SODIMM slot with slot tester
                  by Lifeisfun
                  Hi folks!
I have some kind of memory problem on Lenovo laptop. I was initially able to install windows after several tries since the laptop did freeze in middle of those attempts.
Eventually I discovered that it was related to moving the laptop.
Later on it even stopped booting unless I pressed around the memory slot. (no keyboard LEDs only power button responds)
If I remove the RAM I get the beeps that RAM is missing. Inserting the RAM there is silence and it will not boot most of the time. No picture.

I removed the board got one of those memory slot testers...

Lenovo Ideapad 3 15IIL05 working perfectly with onboard RAM but it doesn't start when I add a memory into the RAM slot
                  by szepesif
                  Hey guys!

I don't know the solution to this problem, but this is definitely not unique and I would like to figure out the solution to fix these in the future.

I have two identical Lenovo Ideapad 3 15IIL05 laptops with integrated 4GB DDR4 memory. Both work perfectly with that. BUT... if I add any extra memory to the single RAM slot, it never gives a picture. I thought the RAM slot pins would be the problem but no, all pins are solid (I checked them under the microscope). The RAM in the slot has 1.2V, so the voltage is present on the module. I flashed the latest BIOS, so

Faulty memory slot on Tekram Slot 1 motherboard
                  by Byte_76
I have a Tekram P6PRO-A5 Rev. 1.01 which has an issue with one of the memory slots and with the floppy port.

When a memory module is installed into the slot which is closest to the north bridge, the board will beep and won't post. The same memory module works in the two remaining slots.

Also, the floppy drive does not work regardless of bios settings.

Please help me to identify the possible cause of the faulty memory slot and the floppy drive port as well.

I have examined the board under my digital microscope and did not find any broken traces....

                  by stormanimal83
                  Hey....

Board as written in description was stuck at VGA LED. common Problem wit these type of bords.... tried all the "standard stuff" like resettin... reseatin.... found out the LED Controller MCU1 = IT8295FN-56A geting burning hot under the last PCI Slot.. now i desoldered it cause there were only 18 ohms at the caps arround.... another aorus x470 in working condition with similar part and nearly same layout had arround 280 ohms...

my question is: why doesnt the board start know without this chip.... worked myself through the boardview but i can“t understand...
