And next thing you know, Windows Eight will have EFFICIENT CGA Graphics.

Windows Nine, Monochrome for that smallest of memory footprints. Along with Optional Non-Graphical Mode.

    Just Kidding!

No disrespect for Windows Seven intended, OK?
I like the XP Mode mentioned above... It would've been nice if Windows Six had it. Does it require 64-bit Seven?

PS. Just threw out Dad's old CGA monitor from Mom's basement last week

PPS. Non-Graphical Mode just LOOKS like a DOS prompt! It isn't, OK? Ignore the man behind the curtain!

acstech, no, you can't customize my os in a way i can. explaining it to you would take more time than to just do it myself...hehe...

when i install stuff for other folks i just have xp with everything integrated in, all the programs etc. and most are just fine with that.

but like i said, it doesn't satisfy ME.

i use a lot of small specialized freeware apps. i essentially do things 99% of others won't ever do.

i also try to charge by the hour esp. when i'm removing viruses...i like to think that that makes them more carefull...hehe...
but it doesn't really, they just pay more because i'm coming few times as they repeatedly mess it up...

        no, there are a 32bit and a 64bit version.

still does't work for me. no matter what i do, computer says no.
am i right in assuming that Hyper-V support is included in 7 Pro? (unlike BitLocker which is only part of Enterprise and Ultimate)

I assume you mean AMD-V / Intel-VT? That is independent of the OS. Any version of 7 will work with it. Looks like your BIOS is just not enabling it properly.

Sure I can. Just like anybody with enough knowledge could. The thing is, you know what you want done and you know how to do it. Why would you bother paying someone else to do it?

Obviously you're not one of my target customers. My customers value their time enough to pay me to get things set up for them instead of taking the time to learn how to do it themselves.

maybe new chipset drivers will fix this.

another nice feature: flawless integration of mp3 players. my Zen doesn't even need drivers. although it runs in MTP mode, i have full access from the explorer now (needed Creative software in xp).
i have a 8 gb Zen i never needed any creatives drivers to use it in XP

essentially the same reason your customers pay you.

but like i said explaining it would take more time, and explaining is pita too...hehe...lol!
(install and setup of filebox extender alone would take too much time if i was to explain it...)

your customers probably just require to have particular programs etc.

                    >My customers value their time

and that brings us nicely to conclusion; i value my time too so i don't have time to play with 64bit os that won't bring me much speed increase.

I don't reinstall my main box either because like you said it takes a while to get it how you like it. I do have other computers to experiment on tho, not to mention extra hdds.

well, so far so good. Install went fine. It didn't like my nvidia quaddro fx1300 video card at all though, had a driver for it, but had really piss poor herky jerky performance...... Also, 2 'unknown devices' in the device manager......no clue what they are. Had to use the vista chipset drivers (hoping that would clear up the unknown devices), and no go, even though the drivers appeared to install ok...

Got that Sun Micro Systems Virtual Box 3.0 today. It was something that I was going to use when I got a PC with some power. I couldn't resist! I had to play with it. Now I have Windows Vista Basic running in XP Home! That crap works! This is only a Dell 4550 2.4 Ghz P4 with 1 gig of Ram at that and it works! Now I have to download the manual so I can figure out how to use Virtual Box for real.

I'd like to confirm the Zen not needing drivers anymore. I have a 2GB Zen V piece of shit that's been laying around for over a year now, it always needed all this bloated-ass crapware from Creative just to get music on it under XP, but 7...

7 picked it up beautifully on its own and even tells me how much battery is left and stuff. No more Creative crapware! I might actually start using this POS now.

Checked my free space on C drive and after a quick clean up and its all there. Going to run ME now. Remember ME?...LOL In the past I liked ME. Went from ME to Xp and never looked back!

                                          TPM chip by any chance?

It stumped me for a while when I got my new Gigabyte board (having an unknown device), until I disabled it in the BIOS.

In a Beelink GTR mini PC, mine has an Intel AX200NGW WLAN module.

                                            Tried (only with keyboard/mouse connected):
                                            • BIOS + database update
                                            • Using latest Windows 11 image built with official image creation tool
                                            • Previous setup version for Windows 11 installer
                                            • Replacing SSD without a slow block (the previous SSD had a slow block with access time > 500 mS)
                                            • TPM reset (worked to the point where DRIVER_PNP_WATCHDOG error message is displayed briefly after the point of stalling)
                                            • Disabling power to WLAN and LAN modules in BIOS (Advanced > AMD PBS > PCI Express Configuration)

                                            by Fam787
I bought a second hand Mid 2014 A1398 MacBook Pro when I lived in Australia. I'd bought it as a back-up machine because I had a Mid 2014 MacBook Pro, and realising it might one day fail, I wanted a backup machine because I don't like change.

Two weeks after buying MBP2, the seller called me to check if everything was OK with the unit, which I thought was odd. At that stage I might have turned it on a couple of times, but I'd not used it when he'd called. Over the last few years I used the machine seldomly because my original mac has been pretty OK. Every 3-6 months I'd charge it...

Couple of Windows 11 machines have come in this week with the same issue. After you login, the taskbar will not appear (or just be a black bar). No access to Start Menu. Task Manager (use CTL+SHIFT+ESC) works, however the Performance stats seem stuck with CPU on 100% for Task Manager itself. Trying to exit Task Manager result in it hanging as well. No issue if you boot into Safe Mode.

First machine, tried many things to no avail (System Restore from last Windows update, rebooting in Diag mode, trying to reinstall Windows Apps via Powershell). In the end, I did an in-place upgrade...
