Re: Another example of superior Apple hardware
Awwww...
That's a set-up! Or a prank on some hapless Mac user.
iMacs NEVER smoke like that on their own!
That poor thing is only smoking 'cause someone poured liquid inside or maybe washed it in a sink.
It certainly wouldn't ever be an Ltec or Nichicon doing a Fuhjyyu.
Can't blame Apple till you look inside,

Re: Another example of superior Apple hardware
Hello
Here's an example of actual SUPERIOR Apple Hardware:
http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/design.html
The new MacBook Pro.
The whole thing is carved out of a solid piece of aluminum. It looks and feels extremely solid and well-made.
There's a video on the above page that shows the CNC machine doing its thing.
You can holler that the Battery doesn't pop out easily but it lasts way long and the lack of a battery opening makes the thing way stronger and a bit lighter.
It's yet another WORK OF ART from Apple! (ducks)

Have Fun,

Re: Another example of superior Apple hardware
You can get a quad-core 17" laptop for less then the MacBook pro one. Apple doesn't even offer quad-core as an option in their Laptops. I'll skip the fancy case, I don't drop my laptops that often.
Keri, by what you've said you started with Macs relatively recently. I've been working with them from almost day one. Apple's hardware of today is OK, if overpriced. However, they have a history of absolute crap. Some of their older models have severe design flaws. Flaws worse then anything found in the lowest of the low no-name PCs. Apple being Apple still charged their premium prices for them.
That's why I don't go Mac. With MS you are stuck with them for the OS, but with Apple you are stuck with them for both software and hardware with no way out. If Dell screws up I can go to any number of other hardware vendors or build my own. With Apple you are stuck. Apple is OK at the moment, but they have a history of the absolute worst hardware and software. Way worse then the cheapest no-name hardware pared with the worst OS from MS. I do not trust Apple not to do this again, their history speaks for itself. When the next big thing that is important to computers but not flashy comes along Apple will be last as usual.Comment

Re: Another example of superior Apple hardware
not to mention the apple /// was a disaster... they removed the cooling fan to make it quiet, but they got so hot they either warped floppy disks or de-soldered logic boards resulting in garbled images. a working apple /// is rare because of this.
and the specs of the older ones sucked as well...
and better yet, with linux, you are not stuck for either os or software. you choose...
and keri, linux is not that hard. much easier than windows, maybe better than mac... dont let the propaganda fool you... all you do is download and burn the image, then boot and test... easy!Last edited by ratdude747; 09-08-2009, 01:15 PM.sigpic

Re: Another example of superior Apple hardware
ratdude: Apple still to this day makes computers with inadequate or non-existent cooling fans. There are tones of Mac models with crappy cooling. Just look at the first gen Macbook pros. Woefully inadequate cooling and those were low power CPUs. My Dell from the same era with the same CPU has no cooling issues and is still almost silent. Jobs seems to have a hate on for fans.
Fan issues are nothing compared to some of the mid-90s power macs. Think of the worst, cheapest no-name PC you can think of. The worst crap ever to be called a "PC". Realize that even that is not nearly as bad as some of the computers Apple put out and charged a hefty price for.Comment

Re: Another example of superior Apple hardware
The only Mac I have ever worked with was little more than a toy in my mind. It was the Apple Mac II. Yes it did end up melting down too. Now I have a quiet Dell C640 lappy but I never use it. I have added all the extra fans I can add to my Dell towers and they are cool as can be. I can't hear all that well so I don't mind at all if my PC sounds like a C130 taking off with a JATO unit at full power. I like it that way. Right now I have some bigger better fans that I will soon be transplanting into my Dimension 4550 just because I have them."It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. Re: Another example of superior Apple hardware
i know mac is bull scat in a silver box.
the only thing mac ever made that i liked was the original usb pro keyboards. te plain usb was not bad either. had a hub built in and was nice to type on.. nice key stroke, quieter, looked sweet... to bad my pro had a membrane die and so the num pad "0" is gone. i will miss it a bunch. all i have is plain usb, which has no del cey or anything in that block and no volume/ eject keys ... but it still has a hub and is compact so it still gets use. but my light viewsonic keyboard is used more as it has tons of hotkeys.
other than that. all mac sucks. all else i have is a mac se i got for free... if i had a case cracker i would fix the looses scsi cable... i have to smack it once in a while to get my 20mb hd to work.
oh, and i have a 4th gen ipod 20gb gray-scale. but i got it for 20 bux at the surplus place. too bad it has somebody else's name engraved in it. they left it on campus and never claimed it... so it was put for sale so i scooped it right up.
yeah, iphone is a middle finger pointed at open souce... ba$tard$.sigpic

Good luck with the new iphone3g too. If you buy the one with the latest radio version you are SOL on unlocking. I never liked typing on them anyway.

My brother works for a company called iyetek, he writes the software that cops use to write automated tickets. My brother's software is used about everywhere in michigan, and starting to in florida. They sent him this really nice PDA and mobile printer to use to make a program with, and that thing was a brick. It ran windows mobile, too. But the pda itself weighed more than some laptops, was somewhat water proof, and that thing could be used to kill somebody with! A police agency in michigan somewhere left him one of their laptops to fix or something, and that thing was a beast, too. It wasn't a toshiba toughbook or anything, some specialty company. But it was thick, had no vent holes what-so-ever, and a keyboard that had a plastic shield over it to protect it from water. It too ran windows.Comment

Re: Another example of superior Apple hardware
Back in the day I used to get all my Microsoft stuff free of charge from the Government. It was on the main servers for download at my brothers workplace. These versions were also great in that they didn't require any form of serials for activation. I guess you could call these progies Engineering samples too. I wish he still worked on the Naval Architecture side over there. My stuff is way overdue now for some newer versions of MS stuff."It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. something else: i've heard cleartype sort of technoloigies are deep inside apple.
does it mean it can't be turned off?

by a_p3rsonHi there,
I'm looking for anyone who might have information on Apple's embedded Apple Watch charging daughterboard, ID 820-02601. This is currently used by Anker in their Apple Watch charging products, but likely by other Apple partner brands as well.
You can see the board referenced in ChargerLab's teardown of the Anker Y1811 3-in-1 MagSafe cube - they discuss the "Apple Watch wireless charging circuit" about 2/3rds down the page. It's not pictured, but the board ID reads 820-02601-A, which sure sounds like Apple.
This daughterboard uses an interesting...-
