Another box of 1T (Hitachi) drives. Look to all be around 11000 PoH with a dozen or so power cycles (no doubt they were sitting in a shelf running 24/7). Looks like they (whoever THEY are) happen to be on a ~15 month upgrade cycle.Comment

Lenovo Thinkcentre A70Z AIO. They say it has screen damage but other than a scratched up bezel, it all looks fine from here. $49 shipped, it will be a good replacement for the Polymac G5 in the kitchen (which is a bit anemic to say the least). Also uses a desktop 775 CPU (not a BGA or even a Socket P laptop chip) so if I want to go nuts with it, I can (at least to the extent that the lenovo whitelists will let me).sigpic

Got a freebie from the county today. Some cheapass flimsy case with an Allied 300w PSU, connected to a Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2L with a Pentium dualcore @ 2.6, 2gb RAM, and a 250gb SATA seagate 7200.12 HDD. Working order, this post created from it. I wiped the drive as I promised I would, then threw W7 on it.
I'm sure the PSU needs to be recapped, they always do....and these are junk PSU's anyway....but the system seems stable.

The PSU looks like an Allied PSU which is (or at least used to be) the somewhat high end line of Deer's PSUs, and could make a good little 300W PSU for that Pentium machine after being recapped. Came in today... runs fine. Memtest 86+'d w/o errors... no screen issues... it's a bit rough in the front, but damn... Installing 7 on it now. Other than being limited to intel graphics, I could go places with it. It has a wimpy E7500 CPU and a measly 4GB of 1066 DDR3, both of which are upgradeable. Hmm...sigpic

Discovered a very annoying quirk with it... the stupid audio keeps cutting out every 10-60 seconds. Bumping the volume (in windows) restores it. From what I read it's a common fault with these although the only explanation provided is "faulty main board, use external speakers" which I call BS on. Maybe an issue with crappy connexant audio chips?

Whatever it is, it's not just me. I may try ripping the HDD out of my main laptop and booting the arch install off of that... although for a system I'm not personally using, I'd rather not arch it (just asking for trouble).

Just as the title states. Two cheap SiS machines, surprisingly stable.
What I will tackle in the near future (the build will be slightly postponed due to slight stomach issues - am still recovering and my physical power (sorry if it sounds weird,English isn't quite my primary language) isn't the best at the moment. Especially with the diet I have to take at the moment.) are two SiS based machines.
The first one is a IPC rebranded Mitac 7521T. Why did I feel the need to tackle this machine? Well, just look at the specs:

"Caseless Cheap Chinese electronic tools" I mean things you get from banggood, ali, fleabay, Am-Zon, etc. like AVR-Transistortester, miscellaneous signal generators, frequency counters, (variable) power supplies, oscilloscopes, low resistance meters, etc., etc. that comes optionally with a case, or comes only with a cheap piece of plastic that barely provides protection to the PCB.
Just wondering what of these (generally flimsy) tools you actually find use (almost) everyday and find indispensable for the price, compared to buying a Fluke or whatnot, if there is an expensive... -
What's the cheapest thermal paste people get that's consistently "decent" ... I'm wondering if I should switch from zinc oxide to something else, but don't want to be disappointed.
Again needs to be cheap... ideally something as cheap as zinc oxide but I figure if it's claimed "better" then it means "more expensive"... which would add to the disappointment. -

Decided to up my game in electronics repair, and bought this dead notebook as learning material. The guy had already sold the screen assembly and ssd, I got the rest very cheap. Told me that he left it charging, and a power surge killed the non original USB C charger in use, and the note.
Schematics seem to be non existent, only sites I`ve found with reference to this model are just trying to serve me malware.

Hi all, I have a cheap LCD with a cheapo brand name "MASTER", it's one of those sets with a single PCB (Motherboard model: tp.s506.pb801) that handles everything. It powers up fine but shows signs that usually indicate a TCON problem (see images) however there is no TCON to troubleshoot, where should I start troubleshooting, on the mainboard? or the LCD's PCB? I tried tapping the thin LCD PCB while it was running and only got a change in video when I tapped a certain IC on the board (see picture below, IC circled in red) and the screen went dark and came back but now it was white instead...
