Re: My work (e.g: the cool stuff I come by)

Drives with bad platters could be drilled. Cobbled together drives could be low level formatted. Most people who have to send their computer in for a hd replacement probably couldn't figure out how to recover someone's overwritten data. That's what we do with drives. My previous employer didn't care so much about securely wiping data either.

for most hard drives, we have a guy in the scrap room that uses wipedrive, except for the ones that are physically damaged

on all sold hard drives, and refurbished systems, we use wipedrive.

            Are you God?
            Is that Heaven???
Our Good Will here always asks two or three hundred dollars for some old
AMD, or PI crap PC's. The trick is to go to the back room where they sell
the busted stuff. All they do to test a system is plug in, and power it up.
If it doesn't boot up or the programing is damaged it goes to the "AS IS"
room! "Junk Parts" loves this room! There is nothing like buying a PC for $12, and its loaded with good RAM, hard drives, and video cards...ect.

What I'm referring is good stuff to sell on ebay or direct as is and broken stuff like this 7600 video card with broken off coil for example?

My local thrift stores sell mostly P1s/P2s. I've never found anything over a really slow P3. On top of that people open the computers and steal things like ram and hard drives unless they are behind then counter and then they are $100+.

Our P3's start out usually @ $120 (with CRT, keyboard, mouse). Our rule is, nothing under 700

^^there is no such thing, it jumps from 2.8 non ht to 3.06 ht. Now as far as the DDR goes, we usually don't sell gig sticks, but we have tons of 512

People give us barely broken and working stuff all the time. They have no use for it and don't know or care to figure one out. Sometimes they have too many and just want to clear up the space. Better than throwing it away. And for goodwill people can write stuff off, not the case with a for profit shop like mine.

Those goodies should be on the ebay as well which I am not seeing any. like loose parts, CPUs, memory, etc. What happens to the defective/dead parts? They are still useable in other uses and parts to repair other that your shop don't have ablity to do.

it depends. if its something like a 15" LCD monitor, then we recycle it. Most of the stuff isn't worth fixing. Larger 19" I collect and try to refurbish in some way (which we never did before until I got here).

everything else, networking equipment without power supplies, and most everything else, gets recycled

old ram gets bought by someone else for $4/lb. metal and some electronics gets bought by dell

                                        Geesh!

No wonder methods are what pushing prices high on these older parts where they should be staying where they should be for value.

My issues: PC133 256MB low and high density and DDR 333/400 256MB (qty of 12) *or* 512MB sizes (need around 6). Otherwise I'd sell my boards for someone else to use and use money to buy newer one board and much cheaper DDR2 sticks.

We keep everything except plastic and steel. Wish we could recycle all of those 15" lcds for you, lol.

                                            Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

Yes, I know I don't post this stuff much anymore....the only reason I'm posting this one is because of a NVMe adapter incompatibility; seems rather planned by Supermicro.....or I'm atleast a bit suspicious. It's plenty new enough to have a UEFI bios but a short 'happy list' of NVMe controllers that will work with this board, as if by some 'miracle', all Intel....so lets start at the beginning; we'll get back to this later.

Of course the motherboard is as the thread title states; X10dai....but we'lre going to have some fun shoehorning this into a modern 'gamer case' that can actually...

Board as written in description was stuck at VGA LED. common Problem wit these type of bords.... tried all the "standard stuff" like resettin... reseatin.... found out the LED Controller MCU1 = IT8295FN-56A geting burning hot under the last PCI Slot.. now i desoldered it cause there were only 18 ohms at the caps arround.... another aorus x470 in working condition with similar part and nearly same layout had arround 280 ohms...

my question is: why doesnt the board start know without this chip.... worked myself through the boardview but i can´t understand...

                                            Dyson Pure Hot+Cool HP00 - Datasheet needed
                                            by Toueno
                                            Hello,

My Dyson Pure Hot+Cool, model HP00, no longer starts.

After disassembling and accessing the electronic motherboard, I found that the 16A fuse soldered to the motherboard is dead. I decided to do an electronic shunt to see the reaction, and the Dyson turns on for a few seconds and then turns off.

It is likely that a voltage control chip or a safety chip is dead, but without the electrical schematics, the repair becomes complicated…

Thank you in advance for your help.

                                            Best regards
