I was just on the net and got a windows protection BSOD. After this the pig wouldn't boot past the BIOS start screen. I knocked her apart and reseated everything then it booted again. I have not had a BSOD in maybe years! Whats going on here Mates!

There is a fifth dimension, beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone.

I'd start by checking the voltage out of the power supply and checking for bad caps. Then I'd run memtest. Then run an antivirus scan. After that, run chkdsk /f. Then, run a stability test such as Prime 95 for a minimum of 24 hours. One of those ought to find it.
I don't know what good reseating would do, if everything was connected right to begin with. But since it worked, I would suspect that something was getting hot, and the time spent reseating it let it cool off. Check fans for dust buildup and functionality.
A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still.
give some info about the hardware and age
imho any incident is going to become a bigger incident later which is why i never deliver a build with one error cos they always come back later
you can also use windows debugging tools, but let's hope that's not needed...if it's tough you'll send minudump and i'll take a look....
oh yeah, you can also take a look at even viewer under administartive tools(in control panel)
if it only happens while on the web, then you look at network interface...
@ Junk: bsods happen for a reason, be it a voltage transient or an hardware issue. Pity you didn't note down the error message, it could have been useful.
However check the hardware: open the psu (if out of warranty), check caps on the motherboard, clean ram contacts and dust on heatsinks, clear the coms then test the computer according to acstech's instructions.
You may even update the network card driver if you suspect it's a network related error, however if doesn't happen again then it's temporary so don't worry too much.
Sorry guys but I'm not as good as you. When I saw it saying it stopped windows to protect the system I hit the power buttom and dumped everything. The warning did seem to concern a memory address but I could be wrong.

Per Hansson I would like to know what the error means but I can't find the c:\ windows\minidump file. Could this file be called something other than Minidump? This PC is a Dell Dimension 4550, and is running the Dell version of Xp Home that shipped with it.

Its fixed! I ran Prime95 for a few hours, and got no errors. I then cracked the case and wiggled things a bit. As soon as I touched one of the Ram sticks I got a BSOD. As it turns out, this stick of Ram has no markings on it so I don't know who made it. It seems to be just a little thinner than the Dell stick, and is loose in the slot. I grabbed the other stick out of the busted Dell which is a Dell stick and put it in this one. Now I can wiggle it and I don't get any BSOD's.

Found the sticker that was on the bad ram. I used Westley's Tire white to clean the old one up, and I guess it ate the glue up. It reads as follows:
Advance Modules
AM256D08A3C-PC2700 32M X 64 DDR
S33715 256MB,333MHz,CL2.5
