But yeah, I picked up an ancient AST Bravo 4/33 right around the corner from my house. I tried fitting in this AST FASTRAM card from 87, but no go, DARN! XD

Haha!
I have TWO of those cards!
One is for good old 8-bit ISA systems and has 2Mb of ram on it and the other, just like yours, is only compatible with specific motherboards.

Ahh, I thought as much! I remember reading that it belonged to a certain model..and I've also found pics of it in a computer museum..

The bravo has a nice case however, I'm wondering If I can't fit an ATX board in there o.O

I don't know what I'd do with the 486 DX it comes with...besides drop in an SX! XD

IIRC, the 486SX lacks the floating point unit present in the 486DX. With the 386 it was worse. The SX was ment to be used with 286 motherboards, and so it had a data bus half as wide.

Well, I stopped by the recycling center AGAIN last friday, and found me a Slot A PIII Xeon 700Mhz CPU. God that thing is HUGE. O_O

i have friends in escrap who skim off the good rebuildable stuff for me.
several in each major facility around here.
the deal is that when they find stuff they want i fix it for them.
got a 42" phillips plasma yesterday.like new.only thing wrong was a few bad caps on the psu.slick move phillips!
surface mount caps in a hang on the wall space heater!

I don't I will ever see one of those in a recycling center or in some guys garage. an 8/e or something similar is more likely but the PDP-8 is unlikely.

Talking about recycling, there are a lot of good old computer recycling organizations in Vancouver BC, Canada. They collect or pickup old unwanted electronics and computers, they also setup drop-off locations all around Canada. Some of them donates to charities while some sell the refurbished computers for bargain prices.

True but all the real good stuff us usually shredded or stripped for gold.
For the Vancouver area I just cross my fingers that something good comes into FreeGeek though usually it ends up on the "not for sale" shelf or someplace similar.
