MS releases "unofficial SP2" Windows Update pack for Win7 SP1 and 2008 R2

    Source : https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/...ows-7-and-8-1/

We're happy to announce today that we're making available a new convenience rollup for Windows 7 SP1 that will help.

This convenience rollup package, available to download from http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/...aspx?q=3125574 (IE required, maybe Chrome works as well) , contains all the security and non-security fixes released since the release of Windows 7 SP1 that are suitable for general distribution, up through April 2016. Install this one update, and then you only need new updates released after April 2016.

And since this update can be injected into Windows 7 SP1 media, it's fully supported to mount a Windows 7 SP1 image (WIM file), then inject this update into it. See https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/...(v=ws.10).aspx for the details of how to do this.

This convenience update is completely optional; it doesn't have to be installed and won't even be offered via Windows Update – you can choose whether or not you want to use it.

To apply this update, you must install the April 2015 servicing stack update for Windows 7 (KB3020369) : https://support.microsoft.com/kb/3020369 . You can read more about the Convenience rollup update for Windows 7 SP1 here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3125574

We hope that you find this convenience rollup package useful. This same convenience rollup also applies to Windows Server 2008 R2.

    --

The 32bit version is 316 MB, the x64 Win 7 and x64 2008 R2 packs are 476MB (they're actually the same file, binary identical, don't bother downloading both if you get one of them)

presumably all of them - given it's a rollup of all previous updates.

After weeding out the KBs with the GWX and telemtry crap I turn off WUS. I do not trust Microsoft anymore because they are not wanting older Windows to be active.

they are devious bastards, they will probably start hiding updates in updates for explorer or office next!

I install nothing after SP1....and I disable every piece of WU through GP edit... It would have been nice if this rollup was security & criticals, and they left out all the garbage, but I guess we should know MS better than that by now...

FYI, GWX is not included. The only important telemetry one I think is included is KB3080149, and it does say that the new version "Reduces the network connections on a Windows system that doesn't participate in the Windows Customer Experience Improvement Program (CEIP)."

                  The update includes: KB3080149, KB3075249 & KB3068708.
These are all for Telemetry, it can somewhat be mitigated by disabling CEIP in Windows though. (Enabled by default).
The update does however NOT include any of the "Get Windows 10" (GWX) components.
I.e. the following updates are NOT included:
                  KB2952664, KB2990214, KB3021917, KB3035583 or KB3123862.

...or mitigated by not installing... such a shame this is what MS has become. Very untrustworthy....and I never thought I'd say that.

I do agree, yet still I never thought the day would come where we would get a post rollup with updates for Win7.
So I guess in some way MS did come through for us.

I'd agree if the rollup could be dissected and the telemetry spyware/malware removed, leaving only critical updates.

This is why I posted the quote from KB3080149. Of course, you can also disable the service too. The original patch was KB3068708. I wonder if someone did a detailed comparison of the two.

After integrating the update in a clean W7 SP1 DVD this is what i get, 222 updates and more than 1 Gb to download WTF

Click on that and see what's actually left to download.

My guess is that they're .Net updates that showed up because after you installed Windows, you installed drivers (like the AMD crimson video card driver) that have .Net based applications ... and possibly a whole bunch of Internet Explorer updates and killbits for ActiveX crap (only in IE).

ps. or could it be that the packs are ENGLISH only and you're using a Spanish language ISO or something like that? - i don't know, i didn't test this pack yet.

By default .NET 3.5 is part of W7 so there are a few updates of it, but many security and optional updates too, i haven't installed any driver since it's a virtual machine, i have attached the complete list of installed updates by default (GWX included of curse ).

Went dumpster-diving and found a bricked Lenovo P14S in trash, few weeks earlier. Symptoms - no screen, no POST, no beep, just keyboard LEDs flashing on powerup. Mute button+LED was responding though, and the display self-test was still working (via the key combo Ctrl+Fn+Power held for some seconds, see the Service manual).

Incidentally, Windows 11 have recently started auto-flashing computer BIOS in our region. Even more suspiciously, Lenovo has released a BIOS update just few days before the PC was trashed. About a week later, the BIOS update image has been oficially marked...

z490-f gaming bricked after bios update
