Download and run process explorer to find out what's consuming your CPU and ram.
    Are you using Vista ?

No it's 7. I used task manager to see the svchost was fronting for the os. It's stopped now. Back to 3% pcu usage and 38% memory.

Somehow that avg uninstaller left bits of the program behind. I'll have to go through and finish it off manually. I've had that happen before with avast. It's like they want to make it impossible to get rid of them, kind of like a virus.

Can't you upgrade the RAM? Seriously, 1GB sucks on almost any modern OS. You could also try re-installing the KBwhatever I and someone else posted earlier. It's worked for me and quite a few customers having svchost (if you use process explorer it's the update service), doing exactly what you've described.

Seriously, you can find RAM on ebay practically for free. I wished I knew 2 years ago as I would have avoided spending so much money on RAM to upgrade old DDR PCs..

Yeah that 2006 Sony (Original Centrino I guess) could be made to run pretty good... Ditch any cleaners and AVG etc and find a nice tight anti-virus (I'll leave that up to you, I don't use it) and stick 3GB in that sucker (I expect that's the max for that chipset) and it'll be great. My mum has a similar laptop (HP DV2000) that is still used daily and it's usably fast.

Reinstall your antivirus then use revo uninstaller to remove it.

What does Revo do that the normal uninstall (which usually uses an msi script) doesn't?

It has three gig memory in it I was wrong. It seems to be back to normal now. Seems to have been microsoft forcing me to update it. I'll probably just manually remove the remnants of avg antivirus. I've had to do that on my other machines.

PCG-7142L is the model number. I traded a Toshiba for it. Plus paid $300. Couldn't get that now though.

Asus ROG Strix Scar G533qm with a G733qm Motherboard, can I modify the Bios to accept G533 Bios
                    by glovecaps
                    Hello,

I have a Asus ROG Strix Scar 15 (G533QM) that had a dead motherboard (Graphics card dead) and after trying to fix the motherboard with no success, I bit the bullet on a sale for a new motherboard. I ordered a motherboard for the 15 inch model which is the one that I have, and when the motherboard arrived it wasn't for a little while that I saw it was from the 17 inch model.

My question is, can I update the Bios on this G733 motherboard to a G533 Bios.

The reason for wanting to do this is that the keyboard isn't working as it should, and I think this...

Asus VivoBook F510UA-AH51 won't run on battery after motherboard replacement
                    by dhenion
I'm working on my sister's laptop: Asus VivoBook F510UA-AH51 - The motherboard died so I replaced it.

                    The original board was:
                    ASUS X510UNR REV 3.0 A

                    The replacement board is:
                    ASUS X510UNR REV 3.0 B (identical except B vs A - I couldn't find an A board anywhere. Visually they are identical.)

It boots right up on the replaced motherboard and everything works fine on the new motherboard - but it won't run off battery. When I disconnect the charger it immediately dies. When I plug it back in and reboot the system - it still shows the battery at...

                    ASUS P5GC-MX motherboard recap
                    by momaka
Here’s another motherboard that needed a full recap: an ASUS P5GC-MX.
This one was gifted to me some years ago by user Pentium 4, along with a few other goodies. It actually came in working order with no bulging or leaking caps. However, I noted there were United Chemicon KZG caps everywhere on the motherboard. The CPU VRM output (CPU V_core) was the only exception: it had only 2x KZG. The rest was 6x UCC TMV 4V 680 uF caps… which aren’t any good news either.

So here is what the motherboard looked like with its original caps:

                    CPU VRM area up close…...

ASUS Zephyrus GA401I Severe Lag, Suspect Motherboard/Power Issue - Need Help Diagnosing
                    by MakNCheese
                    Hi everyone,

I'm having a serious issue with my ASUS Zephyrus GA401I (4 years old, worked perfectly until recently). The system is lagging heavily, even in the BIOS, and is charging extremely slowly (a few percent in hours), making it nearly unusable. I suspect a motherboard or power delivery issue.

                    Symptoms:
                    • Severe lag across the system, including BIOS navigation.
                    • Slow boot times and unresponsive performance in Windows.
                    • Battery charges very slowly (e.g., ~5% in 2–3 hours).
                    • No error messages or BSODs, just extreme sluggishness.

                    What I've Tried:
                    • Replaced
                    ...

[REQUEST] ASUS TUF A15 FA506NF (2021) - Clean BIOS dump needed (UEFI Password locked)
                    by ArkzG
Hey guys, I have an "ASUS TUF Gaming A15 FA506NF (2021)" that's locked with a UEFI password, I need to reprogram the BIOS chip but can't find a clean ".bin" file for this specific model, I've tried the official BIOS updates from ASUS support page, but they're 32MB updaters that don't extract to a usable 2MB .bin file for direct chip programming.

                    What I currently have available:
                    - Model: FA506NF (2021)
                    - BIOS chip: GD25LQ16 (16Mbit/2MB)
                    - Tools: CH341A programmer ready to use

Does anyone have either a clean 2MB .bin dump of this model,...
